Moses Basket

There are bassinettes that have a removable cradle/moses basket that are very sturdy and safe. They have the convenience that comes with the removable basket, but are not flimsy like their pliable wicker counterparts.

I had one of these and it was really great during the first months before baby could sit up. I especially loved the option of putting the basket portion back into the wheeled base, and being able to store diapers, and supplies below. If I needed to move the baby, it was a cinch because the base was on wheels, and so no need to wake baby to move him.

Mine was a gift, so I don't know where I got it from or how much it cost. I think mine was imported from Italy??. I tried to find the one I had online, but no luck. I did find similar a product at around $150. I know it's a little pricey, but it really is a nice option if you're looking for a Moses basket that is safe. I'd skip moses basket and get a bassinett with wheels. Moses baskets are shallow and maybe you can use the 1st few weeks only. Bassinett you can roll around, is deeper and baby is safe. Almost all moses baskets are made with rafia and it can unravel. Congrats on your September babe!

I wanted a Moses Basket for my daughter, but bought this bassinet instead with a removable Moses Basket that is sturdy enough to carry by the handles as opposed to wicker baskets. Funny thing is that I NEVER used the basket on it's own, but loved the basinet anyway. Good luck!

I affirm your effort to fine a good quality one. My brother-in-law was carrying his first new born child home from the hospital in one. The handle broke and baby rolled and fell face first on the sidewalk. It devastated dad (baby was fine).

Every Moses Basket I've seen says that you are NOT supposed to carried the baby around in them - the handles are for looks only. You move the basket, then lay the baby in the basket.
I don't know where to tell you to look but I wouldn't skimp on price - look for safety ratings and get the one that is deemed safest. OR don't bother since they are expensive and the baby fits in it for like 2 months.

My mother-in-law got me mine and we used the heck out of it for about the first three months. I think ours was expensive - probably around $150-200. We loved it because our newborn got to nap during the day near us in a cozy, 'close feeling' bed and we could use the basket anywhere in our tri-level house. He also slept many nights in the basket on the floor in his nursery (wasn't too keen on the crib right away). Finally, it was portable enough that we could load it into the back of the car and take it with us for day trips so he would have somewhere to nap. We never did carry our child around in the basket; it just seemed way too risky.
