Morning Sickness - Canton, OH

I am almost 7 weeks pregnant and MISERABLE! The "morning" sickness has slowly been kicking in for the last week or so. I don't have morning sickness so much as I have all-day sickness. It's gotten to the point where I'm nauseous all day long, nothing sounds good to eat and if I force myself to eat...well let's just say it doesn't end well. I've tried Club crackers and Ginger Ale (which worked with my 7 year old), just Ginger Ale, not eating (which isn't much of an option), eating and just dealing with the aftermath. I'm running out of ideas and sanity! What kind of sick joke is it to make a pregnant women nauseous, hungry and unable to eat?! :(

I need help. Anything and everything that worked for you ladies while pregnant...please tell me! Something has got to give.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

First, I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your tips and tricks. I actually tried most of them. However, I knew I was in way over my head when I couldn't even tolerate the SMELL of the Ginger Tea. There was no way I would be able to drink it. At that point, I called my OB and he called in a prescription for Phenergan. I see him this Thursday at which point he wants to be sure I'm developing HG. The Phenergan is helping to take the edge off, which allows me to eat, but I'm still nauseous. I can live with this level of nausea though. :) Thank you again for all of your advice and support! It's so nice to know that I can turn to a group of moms who have been there if I need some advice. Thanks again! :)

Zofran - seriously, it works! I tried Phenergan with my first and it just made me sleep. (which wasn't good at work!) I took Zofran with my second and it was amazing! It doesn't make you tired at all.
I had to ask my doctor to prescribe it, they don't just offer it up, think it's more expensive.
It also worked for many of my friends!!

Good luck!!

I too had really bad "morning" sickness that was more like "all day" sickness with my son. I even banished my poor hubby from the room if he was eating anything. For about three months straight all I could tolerate was fruit smoothies. I would get the ones with extra vitamins, since I was not able to eat anything else or even keep my prenatal vitamins down.

I know that everyone is different but that was something that I was able to eat.

Also there are supposed to be hard candies (I think you can pick them up from some stores that sell pregnancy items and baby stuff.) I have also heard that the magnetic bracelets that are supposed to help with sea/motion sickness can help.

Good Luck,

B.

I had morning sickness while pregnant with twins and Preggie Pops saved me. You can buy these at Motherhood Maternity. They contain Ginger and Peppermint. Good Luck to you!

I don't know if this will help you but when I was pregnant with my daughter I felt sick all day long. I finally started taking my prenatal vitamins with dinner instead of breakfast and it went away. Maybe it was coincidence. When I got pregnant with my son I took the vitamins with dinner and never felt sick. Good luck!

Hello,

I had morning sickness all day with both of my pregnancies and it is really really aweful. With my daughter it only lasted during my 1st trimester but with my son I had it almost the whole time. I remember thinking the same thing - that it must be some kind of cruel joke because when you're pregnant you should be eating well and getting more calories but then the pregnancy makes you sick so you can't eat anything - it doesn't make sense. See if your doctor can prescribe vitamin B6 for you - you can take it in additional to your prenatal vitamins and for some women it relieves nausea. That worked pretty well for me. Also, I got "preggie pops" which are ginger flavored hard candy that you can suck on. There are other flavors too. They sell them at maternity stores like Motherhood and those seemed to help a little too. I also had warm ginger tea and sometimes I could get that down okay - just buy a ginger root, peel it, and boil it in water and drink. A friend of mine actually had to be hospitalized for dehydration a couple times during her pregnancies because she couldn't hold anything down - if you feel like it is getting to that point make sure you let your doctor know because they can prescribe something to help with the nausea. Hopefully yours will pass soon. Hang in there!

I was beginning to think I was the only one that had "morning" sickness all day long. I had the same problem when I was pregnant with my daughter. My solution was to use the motion sickness bands. They sell them at CVS. No medicine what so ever in them. I didn't want to be put on a prescription because of the side effects and my doctor said to try a more "healthy" approach. They are like wrist bands that have a plastic button that is placed on your wrist on your palm side. I thought they worked wonders. Didn't completely cut out the "morning" sickness but helped tremendously. You may want to talk to your doctor also and make sure he/she thinks this is an alright choice for you. Good luck and Congratulations!

I feel ya I had the worst sickness ever and it lasted till about 14 weeks. I tried Chicken noodle soup without the noodles, I believe that it was the salty broth that stayed down, then I realised that it was salty things that brought a balance to my stomach. But be careful how much sodium you consume, that is the whole idea about the crackers, is the salt. and ginger is great you can get ginger slices in the pickle Ilse in the store. Just take a nibble and it does work. Good luck.

E., I was lucky and did not have morning sickness nearly so bad with either of my children - my Aunt, however, was sick the whole time. She ate crackers and, believe it or not, sipped on flat Coca-Cola. She'd pour the soda into a cup, let it fizz out a little and just sip on it all day long - she swears by it. She says her morning sickness waned a great deal but never disappeared totally. Hopefully, it would at least get you back into the swing of things - sounds like you have your hands full and need to be up an around quite a bit. Talk with your Ob-GYN/midwife about herbal remedies and/or switching pre-natal vitamins or just taking them at night. You might try the lollipops - I think they're called "Preggy Pops" - I got them at a maternity store and they seemed to help me - of course, I ate anything that wasn't nailed down! Good luck to you - just remember how blessed we are, even with morning sickness!

Try hard lemon candies (lemon drops), not the sugary lemon heads candies. I got mine from Green Farms, they have one in Alliance and on in East Canton (though I think E.C. is closed for the season). You should be able to get them from most bulk stores.
Good luck

Try plain boring saltines(Zesta taste best, their texture is flakier) The fat in the club crackers may be too much this time around. Also, try nibbling on the crackers before getting out of bed. I had the same problem with my pregnancy so I feel your pain! Good luck!!
