Morning Sickness - Bethel,MN

Hi there! I am wondering if anyone has any ideas how to help with morning sickness? I wake up with it and go to bed with it. I had morning sickness with my Son, but it was not this bad.. I have not threw up or anything, but I feel like I have the tummy flu all of the time. I have tried drinking lemon aid, taking vit. B. None of them worked. None of them worked with my Son either. I am just wondering if there are any new ideas that may out there? I just cannot wait for this part of the pregnancy to come to an end... It is hard to have morning sickness while you have a toddler to care for at the same time... :(

What can I do next?

The second I'd start to feel queasy I'd drink a can of "ensure". It did the trick for me. Check w/ your dr. first.

Sea bands helped me. They put pressure on your wrists and are traditionally used for motion sickness on boats. You can find them at a drug store.

I had morning sickness with all four of my kids in a six year time frame, so I feel for you. Many hospitals use the smell of peppermint to reduce nausea. You can spray peppermint spray on your pillow or on the collar of your shirt or perfume the whole room with it.

I learned something about the food I ate, too. When I ate traditional "morning sickness foods" like saltines and lemon lime soda, I felt good for a few minutes and then felt bad again. I was constantly eating, then losing what I just ate. This is because those kinds of food are loaded with sugar and processed flour. They easily throw off your sugar balance in your blood.

I know it will be hard at first, but if you can get down complex carbs like whole wheat and oats, fruits and vegetables, nuts and peanut butter, your body will have something more substantial to work with and you won't get that roller coaster sugar spike and crash.

Best wishes,

I had all-day sickness with both of my boys. I found that slim-fast shakes really helped to settle my stomach. I'm not sure why, but you can give it a try.

There are these things called MamaPops (I think), they are made of all different herbs and spices that ease nausea. They come in a variety pack including ginger, peppermint, spearmint and some other flavors. I didn't have a lot of nausea, but when it hit, these took the edge off right away. Also, mint teas are exceptional for easing the feeling.

Good luck!

Hi A.,
I too had the all-morning and night sick feeling--luckily, it did go away after the 12th or 13th week. Anyways, ginger tea really helped me as did soda crackers. One of my girlfriends was battling morning sickness so bad that she had to be hospitalized for intravenous hydration. Her doctor recommended a combo of Vitamin B and Unisom before bed each night. It completely cured her of her sickness! I'd check with your doctor to see what he/she recommends.

One of the best things I learned when I was pregnant is to avoid the traditional carb foods like saltines when you are feeling sick. Instead eat a small (one ounce) serving of concentrated protein. I found almonds to be great. Also I bought the tiny cans (single serving cans) of tuna and salmon to keep handy (But only eat them a couple times a week). Peanut butter, edamame (green soybeans), and roasted soybeans are other good options.

1-hour walks outside were really helping me. Nothing else really helped me, and I had morning sickness throughout all my pregnancy.
Also, not to drink anything right in the morning helped too, otherwise the morning sickness got worse for me.
One of my coworkers said that her morning sickness went away when she stopped taking the pregnancy vitamins. Of course, then you need to watch your diet :) She said she had morning sickness with her first baby all the time and was taking vitamins then. But with the second baby she decided not to take the vitamins, and she didn't have any morning sickness.

Hope that helps.
