Hello there everyone,

We have researched a lot on a good school for our 3 yr.old going to pre k next year. We have come across a nice private school here in SA that is taught the Montessori way. I have read up a bit on Montessori education but am still not quite understanding the benefits of it? Is there anyone out there who can give me a more understanding?

Thank you,Julie

This is a awesome way to learn. Benefits vary from child to child. It is very hands on - great for children that are visual. It allows your child to learn using all styles of learning. I have heard so many positive things about Montessori learning. It is style that is best to start at a early age than going from a traditional school setting and then later say 1st or 2nd grade do montesorri style. I homeschool and have used many of their techniques especially in Math. You may want to research it online to find out more information or talk to other parents where you might be registering your child.
The school should be able to explain the difference as well and share the benefits. Blessings, C.

Hi Julie,

We had our 5 year old son in a Montessori school since he was 2 1/2. He really did gain a lot from the program- fine motor skills development, and at 4 was doing basic addition as well as reading 3 and 4 letter words. However, we decided not to keep him in that system long term- because we felt it was very rigid. The Montessori program is very strict on everything: from the way a child holds a pencil, to following routines (almost robotic) - which in my opinion sometimes does not allow for childhood creativity and exploration. Overall, I'm glad he was in the Montessori for preschool- but its not a program I would want to keep him in through grade school.. because of the rigidity.

Hope that helps!
Adla
