Children are not a concern as this over-rated private school. Children will sit in their own biological waste without ever a phone call to let parents know that the school has lost the extra set of clothing provided at the beginning of the school year. That is if they can find any of the contact details you have also provided. God forbid that your child should ever be sick, you will receive no notification. The only thing this place is concerned with is money. They will force you to sign a contract at the beginning of the year dictating your requirements to pay the entire school year. This contract does not hold them accountable to anything, including child endangerment or neglect. Of course you won’t notice this in the initial exploration of the school and its staff as they are waiting for you to sign the contract for enrollment. My biggest regret is not the money, but that I actually trusted them with the health and welfare of my child.

I do not recommend Killeen Schools for your 5 year old. We sold our house in Killeen and bought a new house in Belton School District because my son did so poorley in KISD. They mean well, but all the other kids there have so many problems that it is hard for good kids to learn. I would highly suggest as an enlisted military wife myself, that you get your husband to drive the extra 20 miles to work. It is so worth it, trust me. We have lived here for 6 years now and life is so much quieter in Belton and my 3 year old and 6 year old love it much better.

our son was miserable there!! he loved school before then and we could see the light demish on his appetite for education go out quickly. we didnt like how you would get written up if their lunch was missing something or if the child didnt eat something you sent. we also had a friend who put her daughter in there - they loved it at first but towards the end it was a nightmare for them. you have 30 days before you are locked into a contract - and even then they dont want to let you go!! They refused to meet with us prior to the 30 days was up and then gave us hell for wanting out. aweful experience!!!

oh and it charges the most tution around- yet the materials your child is given to write on is scrap paper!!!

I am putting my daughter in Memorial Baptist pre-school this fall. It has a great reputation and I was very impressed with the tour. It's clean, bright, and the personell seem very nice. They have music teachers and art teachers that come in a couple times a week. I think it's going to be fantastic! And the tuition is only $333 a month full time. Not bad!

we had a totally different experience from nina. our son was enrolled at a different school/daycare from 2006-2007. they were constantly telling us he was "disruptive" and talked too much. when we talked to him about it he said he was bored, and that he hated doing the same things everyone else was doing. we moved him just after he turned 4 last spring, and things have been completely different for all of us. he was calmer, happier, and much more challenged than before. he began reading last year not long after going there. he just turned 5 and can do 1st and 2nd-grade math. he is a really smart kid, so some of that is due to his natural abilities, but i give the montessori school a lot of credit for supporting & encouraging him.

our daughter just had her 3rd birthday and will be starting at montessori this summer. she has done well at the same school/daycare where our son was, but her teachers not the same ones he had before so the environment is better. still, i want her to have the same exposure & encouragement that he has had this past year.

i think the tuition is reasonable. for us the difference is only about $100/month over what the other school charges. i agree that the kids use what looks like scrap paper but i think the pieces are smaller b/c they are giving them materials that are appropriately-sized for that age, and easy for them to handle.

i will say that the director is rather odd and she is kind of hard to read. i have had a good association with her but i know that some parents don't really like her a lot. my son loves her. they really do want the kids to have a balanced lunch, and a friend of mine (whose daughter is enrolled there) is always getting notes that her kid's lunch is missing vegetables. her daughter won't eat them so that is always a struggle for her.

hope that helps. welcome to killeen/harker heights!

A great school is Little Lambs, Christian based. All the kids love it and they use Abeka Curricula. My 2 years old knows her letter sounds, recognizes letters, numbers, shapes, colors, and they are starting days of the week. I have friends that have 3-4 years old that are reading, spelling words, know money etc. It is great. call them ###-###-####
