I'm in my second pregnancy and I just have this feeling that it is twins! Can any moms that have had twins tell me their pregnancy symptoms or any ways to tell if it could be twins?? Also, how soon can the doctors tell if it's twins? I think I'm a couple months along and I have an ultrasound on my first appt. I'm hoping to find out then! Thanks everyone!!

What can I do next?

E.,

i found out I was having twins at my firts doctors visit at 4 weeks. They did an internal ultrasound. The doctor told me that I would have more intense symptoms than a woman carrying a single child. He said I would probably have worse back pains, worse vericose veins, etc. and that it was likely that I would be on bed rest at some point. The thought of being on bed rest scared me so bad that it motivated to make my pregnancy great. I read lots of books got a yoga video for pregnant women. I ate often but really really healthy. I gained 40 pounds and my son was 7 lbs 4 oz and my daughter was 7 lbs 1 oz. I never felt better! It was truly an amazing experience. So, I think each person's experience is unique regardless of how many babies she is carrying. i think my attitude really helped the whole experience. However I would not discount another woman's experience if hers was not so positive. Good luck to you. Let us know if it is twins!

E. - I found out at 12 weeks that I was having twins - they saw it right away, so I am guessing if you are having twins your ultra sounds will show it.
It was the best and the most shocking news I had ever gotten!
Now my boys will be 5 in March and it is so much fun!

I had a miscarraige the first time I was pregnant. Because of this...in the second pregnancy, we had an ultrasound early at 7 weeks. My twins were detected at that time. I had NO unusual symptoms and NO morning sickness what so ever in my pregnancy in general. Some moms of twins experience MORE morning sickness due to the extra hormones. I did feel them flutter earlier then most pregnant women. My twins are now 10 months.

Hi E.. I have 6.5 month old twins. My pregnancy symptoms were, nothing. I had no symptoms. I really didn't believe I was viably pregnant because of how different it was from my pregnancy with my son. With my son I had severe breast tenderness, severe morning sickness (I was on two medications to control it) that lasted 16 to 17 weeks, and extreme fatigue. I had none of these with my twin pregnancy.

I also found out at 20 weeks at my first ultrasound. They will most likely be able to see if you are pregnant with twins at the ultrasound. It is very rare that they miss it.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and let us know what you find out.

The feeling that you might be having twins was one that I had, I told my husband as soon as I found out I was pregnant that it was twins and he laughed. When the ultrasound proved me right he wasn't laughing anymore! I also had blood tests done, and the first one was just slightly elevated hormone levels, so they told me to come back a week later to take another one, and it had tripled, which is another sign. But, you will also start showing sooner, you can almost feel your uterus getting bigger! Oddly enough, when I was pregnant with my first son I had horrible morning sickness, but with my twin boys I didn't have any morning sickness at all! But, out of anything, I would just go with your gut instinct. They will be able to let you know at your ultrasound for sure, let them know you think you might be pregnant with twins so they can make sure to look (I'm sure they would anyway). Whether or not your pregnant with twins, congratulations! And if you are pregnant with twins and want someone to talk to, feel free to email me anytime! Make sure to let us know!

E.,
congrats about the pregnancy twins or not. I had no idea I was pregnant with twins until I was 5 months along. For some reason they didn't do an ultrasound until then, when I asked as I wanted to know the sex of the baby. I was seeing a doctor in Willmar and moving up here in August so I don't know if thats why. I showed no signs of having twins, no morning sickness, usual weight gain and when they measured my stomach to see how I was growing all was normal.
I found out when they finally did the ultrasound. They were almost done taking pics and measuring to make sure the baby was growing fine. He accidently moved too far down and caught the 2nd baby. If not for the ultraound I probably would not have know for another month when I really started to gain more weight and my stomach measurement was bigger than normal.
Good luck!!!! I think every mom is different. I was hungry all the time, but my pregnancy for having twins was a breeze. And best of all they were a healthy 7 lbs 5 ozs and 7 lbs 15 ozs. The girls are 2 now.
When you have your ultrasound have them check and see if you are having twins or not. Let us know!!!
best of luck

Hi E.! I found out about my twins at a 6 week ultrasound. I had no clue that I was pregnant with twins! I was just glad to be pregnant!
At that point I did not have any "different" symptoms from my first pregnancy. However, when the "all-day sickness" kicked in......it was much worse than with my first pregnancy and lasted about 1 month longer.

Good luck to you!

E.,
Congrats. As far as symptoms goes, I had a gut feeling that the second pregancy was "different". Everyone said "all pregancys are different" but I know something was really different than the first one. Other than a gut feeling I had no clue. I got my 1st ultrasound at about 12 weeks and that is when I found out for sure that it was different - it was twins. It was also 1 week before my son turned 1 so I was a little shocked to say the least and has some work a head of me in the next few months to prepare for 3 under 2. : ) Good luck !!
