My son is 3 and always tends to get watery eyes. I have tried Benadryl and Claritin and they work for a little while but then he keeps getting this green boogery stuff in his eye. I remember when he was little the doctor always thought it was a blocked tear duct but I think it may be allergies. Does this happen when kids have allergies?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I'm still doing Claritin daily and if his eyes still tend to water and get bad this summer-I think it will be time to see an eye doctor! Thank you everyone for your advice :)

M.,

My daughter gets a clogged tear duct every spring. The pediatrician told me that it can be caused by allergies or a head cold that moves into the sinuses. I have a prescription for eye drops that have to be given 3 times a day, and she hates them. He says she will grow out of it, eventually. She is 5 now, so we will see.

Hi M.:

Actually that happened to me when I was little and it was indeed allergies. I believe so strongly that part of what's happening is that there are so many toxins in our homes just because of what we use to clean them. Most of us have used bleach, Lysol, Comet, 409, etc. Those things actually can trigger allergies and it's very h*** o* those little ones.
I want to tell you that I completely converted my home over last year to products that are safe for the home and my family. I am a very satisfied customer of this wholesale company and I get all my products delivered right to my front door 3 to 5 days after I order online.
I would love to share with you the company and what an impact it's made on my kids' lives. None of my kids have had to go to the doctor for colds, flus, allergies in over a year now. Definitely worth getting the info for.

Blessings to you!!!

Take him to an eye dr, My 3 year old, then 2 would cry and say her eyes hurt, and they would be a little crusty, finally after a couple of weeks of this I took her to the doctors, they were pretty sure that it was allergies, they gave her a couple of prescriptions (oral) they also said there was an eye drop out there but the label cautioned use on children under 3 or 4, so I took her home and used the perscrip, they helped a little but not much, about a week later my oldest was at her eye dr appointment when she started fussing that her eyes hurt, the doc asked what was wrong so I told him he put my 3 year old on my daughters lap and took a look and it was eye allergies very clearly but oral wouldn't get to the eyes so he decided we would try the eye perscrip, even though it wasn't tested on children that young and hadd me come back in 2 days to watch her eyes, what a difference we ended up using another one to prolong the effect of the medicine and it was amazing no more tears, so if you try the oral and it doesn't work, try your eye dr he can go a little fyrther with the eyes.

My oldest has severe allergies. In fact he gets hives with his. This happens a few times during the year. The doctor has him on Allegra. I've never seen the eye goobers though.

Both of my kids have allergies, my son more than my daughter, however I give them both Claritin every night. The key is that you have to use it consistently, not just when he has the symptoms. Both Wal-mart and Super Target have their brands and it saves you about $4 a bottle. The dose lasts 24 hours, I give it to them every night before bed. Its ritual here. Good Luck!!

Eye Boogers are really allergy symtoms that I have ever heard, they usually mean that the tear duct is clearing out, or pink eye, and generally they clear out the duct as infants. I have had allergies all my life and i usually take claritin on a regular basis because then I dont have to worry about any reactions unexpectedly. Good Luck!
