You are definately NOT alone- lol
What bugs me even more is when my son says "Mom?" , and I respond with "Yes?" or "what?", and he doesn't respond, so I walk away, only for him to call me again 2 minutes later! Argh!

Normal.

I have 2 kids, who are 4 and 8. Well actually they are 4.5 and 8.5 years old.
They call me all the time.
Not my Husband, they call me.

I tell them, they can do things themselves. They can. I tell them, don't be lazy. But if they really need help, sure I help them.

I also tell them, to come to ME if they want to show me something.
And instead of telling me "can you get me..." I tell them "YOU can get it. You know how."

I'm a SAHM, with my kids everyday, 7 days a week.
They are old enough, to do things, themselves. They are perfectly able.
I teach them HOW to do many things, in the house.

Or I tell them, do not say "Mommy" for even 10 minutes. Even if I am in the same room as them.
I tell them "Problem-solve it...." if they want something even it is 10 feet away from them.

Or, I have also turned the tables on them. Calling them every 3 minutes. For the same reasons. In that way, they understood, how it can be. :)

My 9 yr old has been going through this phase again (the last time she was about 4) lately. Mom, what's that sign mean? Mom, why do they put them there? Mom, ____...
I just say: Allison, why are you so curious about that? Allison, why do you always ask ME? Allison what will you do with that information today? Allison, _______?
Right back at her. She gets the point/hint and laughs... then starts REALLY coming up with questions. On the 20 minute ride home from her piano lesson yesterday she started a marathon (intentionally). She started about 4 minutes into the drive and was still going when we were walking into the kitchen at home... my son (almost 13) walked into the kitchen to ask me something and got interrupted by sister's "questions" and just stopped and STARED at her. Then started shaking his head...

Both of my kids do this! My son likes to mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom rapid fire. When I ask "what Kain?" He says " ummmmm, hi." Then he runs off to play.

Another household favorite is "mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, (brother/sister) is Realllllly annoying me!" I usually say "I know the feeling"

Oh L....I feel your pain.
My 3, 5 and 6 y/o's are constantly calling my name. Some days I wish to change my name but that just causes more frustration and whining :)
There are times I walk into the room and all 3 of them start "MOM... MOMMY.... HEY MOM.....NO I WAS TALKING FIRST.... I WANT TO ASK HER SOMETHING..... MOM I.....HEY YOU INTERUPTED ME..... MOM.... MOMMY...." I usually just turn around and walk the other way. They can really drive me insane! I always end up addressing each one individually and explain that I can't hear 3 different people at the same time and effectively help them all at once. They need to take turns.
One thing that helps me keep my sanity, is not allowing them to interupt me when I speaking with someone else. The rule is, unless you are bleeding or there is an emergency you must not call my name more than once and then you must put your hand on my arm and wait for me to acknowledge you when I get a second. It keeps the "mommy" calling to a minimum when I'm trying to carry on a converstation.

Usually I like to try to give solutions and not just say, "mine to". But. I have TWO doing this right now, my 5 and 3 year olds and my 2 year old is getting in on the act. Sometimes I'm looking right at them as if to say, "OK, I'm listening" and they still keep saying mom!!!!! My 3 year old does the "Mom, mom, mom, um, mom, guess what, I went to the-Mom? mom, MOM..." and won't finish a sentence!!! AGGGGHHHH. Please tell me they wont' still be doing this at 9! I'm becoming a broken record: "Quit saying MOM!"
Maybe I need to discipline it or offer an incentive if they don't say mom for x amount of time. I though it would pass but this has been happening a while. Maybe we need to turn it on them. Try saying your daughter's name a thousand times a day. See if it drives her nuts! Good luck, I feel your pain!

Yes My daughter just turned 10 and since she turned 8 its been MOM like crazy. I just keep thinking in the back of my mind to keep my cool, She will only want me like this for a few years then she will be teenager and want nothing to do with me. So instead I give her a hug and kiss and tell her I love you but go get it yourself.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this but the idea that I can find anything drives me nuts. Mom where is my.... Then they get all belligerent when I start asking questions like where was the last time you remember having it.....it is like they don't get they are the only ones in the house that actually know where it is. Me I just turn over stones until I find it.

Meh, maybe I should stop doing that.

That is so funny Carrie! My son just called me "Mama". Sometimes I say, "Mom's not here, she went to the store. She'll be back later." They don't buy it! haha. I'll try the name change one next time. :-)

So L., explain to your lovely daughter that when she needs you, she needs to get up off her patootie and come to you. She is not allowed to holler "Mom." Also, if it is something she can get herself, encourage her to do it.

When my boys wake up in the morning, they spend the first 15-20 minutes calling my name (usually when I am eating my breakfast). I explained that if they need me, they need to come to me instead of hollering through the house.

Oh honey...I am even getting it from my dog. You are SO not alone. My 10 year old gets jealous of my in-home daycare and starts wanting to do things with me that I simply can't find time to do no matter how hard I try. But she is pretty good about it and does understand most of the time. My dog is full on jealous and barks and whines to get more attention. Today I had a couple of 1 year olds in the house that were vollying for my attention. So my grandson woke up from his nap cranky and pretty much demanded me and ONLY me. His mother was here, his mothers boyfriend was here and the other grandparents. But he wanted ME only.

Sometimes I want to stand in a room and yell I'm only ONE person!

I get a break from it ;)

My son gets REALLY precise about certain things, numbers and names being 2 of them. In public, he calls me by my first name and in private he calls me mom. (he hates that other people's moms are also called mom, and the *potential* for confusion just isn't something he's been able to handle since he realized other kids all call their mom's mom/mama/mommy as well). He's also not allowed to use my first name with any kind of derision / temper/ snarkiness, what have you.

So it's come as something of an unexpected blessing that while I may have one of THOSE (deep sigh, do not bang my head against the drywall... or at least not in the same spot as last time) kind of days... at least I get a mixture of my name and my title.

It's the little things that keep us from being admitted / going mental.

Oh NO! Please don't tell me this lasts THAT LONG!? My daughter is 3.5 and some days I want to shoot myself! I thought for sure it was a shorter phase than what seem to be forever? 8,9,10,13 years old??? (from what I'm reading here, sigh) This too, I shall survive... LOL... BTW, mommy gets "time outs" where she can't talk, and it seems to work (for now!). So, you are not alone! :)

I get that too, almost anything she says starts with "mommy?...." I just take a deep breath and sometimes roll my eyes without her noticing and say politely "Yes?" and she continues. Take one day at a time. Something i do tell her sometimes especially if we are together alot is that I need "quiet time" and give her how many minutes. Or play with her for 15 then she is on her own for 30. Just to get a break and listen to your own thoughts sometimes.

Oh, this is too funny!! And so normal. I have three - two grown sons (31 and 27) - on their own and one daughter (14) at home. Just the other day she was following me around the house, right on my heels, saying "Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom...." on and on until I finally turned to her and said "what, what, what what...." She laughed, knowing she was driving me crazy, and wanted a hug. When the oldest was 4, I had picked him up from day care and just walked into the house. I needed to pee and change clothes (in that order!) but he had started from the minute we got out of the car with his "mommy, mommy. mommy...". No matter how many times I said just a minute or hang on, he kept going. Finally, totally frustrated, I told him I was changing my name and not telling anyone what it was going to be. He was sitting in the floor crying when his father walked in the door. I got to pee, change and then we had a good laugh. Unfortunately, that trick only worked once.

They know what they're doing and they're doing it to push buttons or limits. They can do it for themselves. My daughter is bad to look at me just as I sit down and say "hey Mom, can you bring me..." and then complain because I never sit down or watch tv with her. Sometimes I just get it, other times I ask if her leg is broken or if she forgot where it's located. Still other times I just say "no". Depends on how I feel.

For momof2girls, it depends on the child. College, moving away, almost married - hasn't stopped them yet. They still call me sometimes and, I think for laughs, say "Mom, can you think where I might have put..." They got that from their father! But I love them and I wouldn't have it any other way. Enjoy them now and do whatever you want to for them. You can still teach them how to be self-sufficient and responsible, but they grow up fast enough as it is. Drives you nuts for a while but this too shall pass.
