Trust me, your maternity leave won't be boring and will go by much faster than you can believe. You need this time to let your body recover, establish a good nursing routine, and discover the joys of motherhood. Before you know it, your leave will be over and you'll wonder what happened to it all.

Hi. I think you have been misled somewhere. There are no boring days of maternity leave. As a first time mom, you will be exhausted, recovering and trying to learn how to take care of a baby. Don't overestimate the free time you think you will have and commit to a job until you get into some kind of routine. Especially if you have a colicky baby or a bad sleeper!

Oh my! This must be your first baby if you think maternity leave will be boring ;-). Congrats!
If you plan on returning to work after you have the baby, your maternity leave is the only break you'll get from the rat race. You'll need the time to sleep and figure out how to operate a baby. I wouldn't leave your co-workers with any expectations of your availability while you're on leave.
If you don't want to take the full 12 weeks, you might see about taking 8 or 10 weeks off, then coming back part time for the last few weeks.
