Molluscum Contagiousm!!

I was just wondering if any other moms had dealt with this? I was doing some research and they said there really is not a rememdy for this it just goes away for a few months to A FEW YEARS!!! To just explain a little, my lilttle one woke up with seven spots on her elbow. It didnt look like a rash it looked more like bug bites or something.. Well that was two weeks ago and she has gotten five more. I asked the doc and she told me is mulluscum contagiousm. I am kinda freaked out considering it is very contagious and I have no clue where she picked it up b/c its incubation time could be up to six months! But my real fear is it spreading to her face. They say this effects mostly children but I have another one on the way in a few months and I dont want to have two kids wiht it.. Anyone have any expierence with this ? Please tell me how you got rid of it...thanks so much
J.

My daughter had this when she was around two years old. It took about 9 months to 1 year to finally get rid of it. She had it for 4 months before we decided to take her to the dermatologist. Our pediatrian told us to just watch it, because in most kids, it clears up in 6 weeks! Hers started off on her face as a couple of spots. It then slowly progressed to her trunk and hands. Our dermatologist prescribed something called Aldera. It is an expensive medicine used to treat genital warts. You apply a VERY tiny about to each spot daily. It took some time, but it did work. I believe had we not used this cream, her molluscum would have spread further and lasted longer. What this med does is heal each spot individually. I would try to get a prescription for Aldera if I were you. I really think it did the trick!

Hello J.,

My son who is now 6, had this at 3 years old. It is contagious and if she scratches the rash it will spread to other areas. My son had it on his elbow, armpits, and behind his knees. We went to our dermatologist, Jennifer Cather at Modern Dermatology (her office is located by Northpark Mall off 75) and she treated it with a chemical that she "painted on his bumps. The medicine itself does not hurt, but the rash will blister initially then go away. The blistering effect is the body's immune system fighting against the medicine (which is derived from a bug venom). The rash does go away within 7-10 days. My son has no scars and is free from the molluscum. I will warn you, we did have to have several treatments over a year because he kept on having it spread to other areas. By the way, don't be tempted to buy the medicines over the internet and do anything with duct tape. My girlfriend did this with her son and it never worked, it made things worse. Good Luck and Hope this helps!

J., I have no idea what this is...never heard of it:)...BUT my husband is at parker, too!! what tri is yours in? just curious and thought i'd say hey:)

My daughter had this on her inner thighs. We did nothing as the pediatrician said and it spread and got worse. We went to one quack of a dermatologist who put my daughter on a cream that made them spread even worse. It spread to her private area. We finally went to see a Dr. Stanferd Kusch at Baylor in Plano. He placed a treatment on the spots which made them blister, pop, scab over and go away. It sounds worse than it is. He said once the black seed comes out with the scab they are gone. It took only three treatments and we have never had them come back. I didn't want to wait years for them to go away. Trust me, they take longer than the 6 months our pedi said. It is very contaigious and can be spread from anything. They think my dd got it from a public pool. By the way it was Aldera which made things worse for us.

Unfortunately both my daughters had this a few years back. We first went to the pediatrician and she tried several things that only made them worse. We tried sqeezing them...effective but very painful. We were finally referred to Dr Gahli a pediatric dermatologist (I think he's in Colleyville now) He used something called "Beetle Blistering" and it was completely painless and the bumps were GONE in a few weeks. Basically he "painted" a liquid on the bumps. I think we were supposed to leave it on for a few hours and then wash it off. The bumps dried up and scabbed and fell off. My one daughter has scars in her armpit where the bumps were, but it's not a big deal. I would recommend going to see him if you can. He was a Godsend for us!!! I wish we had gone to him immediately instead of waiting. Our pediatrician was not helpful with this!! Good Luck :)

Until you can get her to the dermatologist, I would recommend giving her some Benadryl (with her pedi's approval) if she says that area is itching, and to keep it covered with a bandage at all times, to keep her from accidentally rubbing or scratching, and then touching another area of her body with the same hand, which will be inevitable. You might also want to go to a pharmacy and pick up some medical gloves for you and your husband to wear, so when it's her bath time, you are not coming into direct contact with the spots, and spreading them. Hope this helps, and that she gets better soon!
