Has anyone had a mole removed for cosmetic purposes? Was it laser or what? I have a few moles on my back I would like to remove in my middle back from sun damage and I was wondering if laser leaves scarring. I also saw on the internet a product that removes them with a solution. Has anyone used this?

What can I do next?

I had 4 moles removed from my face. My doctor numbed the area then scraped them off. The first couple of days they were sore then they scabbed over and healed up in 10 days or so. You can't tell where 3 of them were and the 4th there is a faint discoloration (like a very light colored, flat mole) there.

I have had a couple cut off, left a scar but that was better than the mole.

I had one removed from my armpit. After years of shaving it became floppy and starting to bleed (gross). The area was numbed and she had to dig it out from under the skin, not just scrape off the top. It hurt like a beyotch for days after that. It probably didn't help that it was in the armpit so everytime I moved my arm (assembly work in a factory, so all day long) it was pulled. It was a wound afterall. Now there is no scar but there is a small brown dot. I was told it could grow back w/ time.

I would not use anything from the internet. Seems a little scary to do-it-yourself. Plus your doctor may want to test the skin cells for cancer.
I have had a few removed. The doctor numbed area, injected with a solution to make the skin "puff up" and then scraped with a scalpel.

I also have had a piece of odd skin frozen off on my arm. The doctor just put tool on my arm and pulled the trigger few times. Scabbed over and was gone:)

I've had many moles removed over the years (lots of time spent in the Southern California sun as a child, and very fair Irish skin). Usually, they scrape them off with a razor, and in my experience, this does not leave a scar. You simply cover it with a band-aid, and apply Neosporin daily until it heals.

I've also had them removed via scalpel (not recommended, but probably not necessary unless they suspect skin cancer - this is the only method that has left a scar for me, because they had to cut away a large eye-shaped area and then stitch it back together... ugggggh). They also have a round hole-punch type thing that removes a round plug of skin - again, they wouldn't do this unless they felt the mole could be cancerous, and they're trying to leave a clear margin around the mole for testing purposes. The hole punch didn't leave a scar, either.

I've never had a mole removed via laser. I imagine it would be more expensive, and possibly not covered by insurance?

I would never try to remove them any way other than through a physician. The reason being that moles can be cancerous and I would want to have that checked.

I've had 2 spots removed. It really was no big deal. The dr. just numbed it and then sliced it off. I do have some ugly scars, but they aren't so big that it's super noticable. They are both on my leg, but not for cosmetic reasons. Both of my spots came back as abnormal. Not melanoma, but could turn into it in the future. They were changing and getting bigger which is why I had them removed. I'm actually due with my yearly skin cancer screening, but I can't find a dermatologist that will take my insurance
