I got a call from John Casablanca Modeling Agency and set up an appt for my daughter. Anyone have any experience with this agency or hear anything about them?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone. I am going to give them a call in the morning and cancel our appt. I had time to think about it and my life is crazy and hectic as it is, we dont need one more thing to add to the twist. My daughter will continue taking her 2 dance classes and play basketball. Thats enough for a little girl.

well thats a big step for a little girl. Most agency's would want a portfolio. Usually that's the selling point is to get good pictures taken. Natural one's look great, they usually want them with a natural look. If it's a really good agency they'll pay for a portfolio. Don't fall for their fees. If your little one is a natural they'd make money off of her so they wouldn't have to ask you for much. I say do some research, and keep the event as if it's an ordinary day, you don't want to get too excited some of these places can be cruel and you don't want your little princess to be subjected to that. Good Luck

I have had over 6 years experience in the modeling world from the time I was 15 until about 21 years of age. What I can tell you is that you would be better off finding a personal photographer with experience working with modeling agencies, and experience working with children. Modeling schools tend to be rip offs, asking you to put money up front, as well as giving them money for each session you would take your child to. I was in a modeling school for about a year, and my mother put up a whole lot of unneeded cash. Eventually I was able to find a good photographer who did a composite for me, as well as start a portfolio that I could take with me when meeting with agents. I was signed by a modeling agency, and started working on catalogs, magazines, and runway shows. If this modeling school asks you to put up any money, I would avoid taking your child to it.
If this is an Agency/or school, attend the appointment regardless to see what they would offer, and if the amount, if any that you would have to give them.
If it is an Agency, and they want to sign you, they should not be asking you for any money, but ask you to sign a contract with them stating that your child is signed by them, which will enable them to recieve a certain percentage of the amount that your child will recieve on each of the jobs she worked . They also will be responsible for finding jobs for your daughter, and help with creating a portfolio/composite of pictures.

I googled their name with word scam afterwards. It Seems to be just that a scam!! Check into it yourself and see what you come up with. If they ask you for any money for photos or anything thats a sure fire way of telling its a scam. Hope this helps. Much Luck to You!

Its a bad idea - a company I worked for used them a few times and there was a lack of supervision, alot of broken promises (they told the girls they could keep the outfits they modeled which I clearly told the company was not an option) and every time we used them one of the girls fainted....

Find out who Parents magazine, Gap or a reputable company uses for a start.

Hi, I agree with Iris. My niece was into modeling when she was younger. She even became Miss Mass. Teen, but it took tons of money and traveling (which her mom had to pay for). I think the whole thing was pretty much a money maker for the modeling company. If they think your daughter is model material, they should provide you the portfolio for free. Good luck! M.

My two children just got signed with an agency in Boston. Everything was upfront, no classes, no surprise fees. Be careful, and definately check the company's background with the Better Business Bureau.

Good Luck!

They are a great agency but it does cost quite a bit of money. They charge you forthe class the think that your child needs and picture to put in her porfolio. They alsodoent do much in the way of getting you job. It is a fun andlearning experince rather than your childs big break.
