MMR Shot Side Effects

Hi. I've read that some children have experienced side effects within days of having received their MMR shot. Can anybody elaborate? I waited until 15 months to get my son the shot. Thank you :-)

What kind of side effects are you talking about? Within a week to 10 days after getting the shot your child can become feverish and develop a measles-like rash, 3 to 4 weeks after the shot a mild form of hte mumps can develop, in the 6 weeks after the shot, very rarely, a rash of bruise-like bumps can develop. This probably isn't the information you are looking for though. If you want to know about autism as a "side effect" I can't help you.

a credible site, particularly since it's an .edu site

"The Immunization Safety Review Committee (ISR) was a project within the Institute of Medicine that addressed current and emerging vaccine-safety concerns. The committee provided independent, non-biased advice to vaccine policy-makers, as well as practitioners and the public."

I would avoid .com sites as they tend to be biased.

If you mean people who allege autism like effects, just Google it. I personally don't believe it and the study that alleged it has been recanted by the study's authors. There is a child in Maryland that the Vaccine Court paid out on, but she had a metabolic disorder which interacted with the vaccine and caused her severe medical issues.

Normal side effects are achiness and discomfort a week or two after getting the shot.

The best way to get info. about this is the NVIC. National Vaccine Information Center. They have tons of info. on their web site.
They are also local in No. Va
The side effects vary. You can delay and or selectively vaccinate your child. Also, do not be fooled into thinking the vaccines are safe. Many adverse effects go unreported. In MD, we have a religious exemption. So, you can send your child to school without all the vaccines. You just sign a form. They are not allowed to ask you what your religion is or about your decision.
The side effects vary from seizures, to headaches to paralysis and so many others.
Good luck,
L.
