Missed Period - Glen Gardner,NJ

My periods run anywhere from 23 days to 29 days. More often 23 to 27 days. One time it did go 30 days. Although I am now at 33 days+/- a day. My sister, me and husband all had a dream that I was pregnant (possibly on the same night) about 2 weeks ago. I have taken multiple tests that are negative. I have always shown positive when pregnant at approx 21 days. So I was curios if anyone has any suggestions of why I may be so late. I am no more stressed than usual so I dont think its that. Thanks

What can I do next?

I did get my period. It was late. My son has fifth disease so I dont know if that delayed it an also we did go away and I walked probably 8-10 miles a day witch is not normal. Thank you all so much for your help and responses!!!!

Hi, i am now pregnant with my second child, and had the same experience you describe. I took 7 pregnancy tests, the doctor told me to forget about it, I'm not pregnant. But instinctively i knew, plus a couple dreams, as well as physical symptoms. Finally, i got a positive result at about 6-7 weeks. So my advice is to just wait it out; if you start feeling symptomatic, continue to test at home once a week or so. Oh, and just in case you are, start taking folic acid now. Good luck!

I am 33 and this happened to me. I was always 28 days on the nose but the last year i'm all over the place from 26-30 days, but one month i was 9 days late. And yes I thought maybe i was pregnant. I took a test that was negative, and i finally got my period on that 9th day which is very unusual for me. I have never in my life been that late except for when i was pregnant. I think it does have a lot to do with stress, even if you don't think that you are under anymore than usual.

Plus the dreams don't help. My husband had a vasectomy and I was like 2 weeks late and that NEVER happens for me. My boobs hurt and I was stressed to think about a 4th but sort of excited, but then I found out a close family friend was unexpectedly pregnant, I chaulked it up as sympathy pains. I didn't ever tell anyone I was sort of excited about the thought of another baby but I was so maybe I wanted it to be TRUE! GOO luck to you in whatever happens

Hmmm. I'd try charting for a few months- and maybe looking at your thyroid health; but don't overrule a pregnancy yet! Check out one of the books on understanding your reproductive health like Taking Charge of Your Fertility or The Garden of Fertility.

One month while I was still nursing my first child who was 18 months, and experiencing irregular period intervals, I ovulated two times and so tests didn't read positive for me til day 42 or so because my second ovulation didn't occur til 20 or so days after my last period. I had a few weeks of suspense!

P.,
This is a long shot, but... have any females moved in with you recently? Here's why I ask. When I went away to college, I was on the pill, and my roommate wasn't. After living with me for three months, she casually said that her periods were erratic for the first time in years. Turns out that my ferimones (spelling?) were interfering with her body's hormone regulation. So, another woman living in close proximity with you could be the cause of your change in cycle.

P.,

I really don't know, but I would guess that since you are 40 your periods might start becoming a little irregular in preparation for menopause. Do you know when your mom entered menopause or started having symptoms? Maybe some of the older moms who have been there will chime in if they think it is something like that.

The other question I would have, since your baby is only 15 months, is how long have you been having periods since that baby was born. I know personally that since I nursed my last baby for 17 months, my periods were very irregular until my body adjusted after she weaned. That might be another possible explanation.

Hi P.,
for me, my pregnancy tests were all negative first and showed positive later. It's possible you ovulated later than you thought, so it wouldn't be positive until later. I'd say, if you go beyond 36 days, which would be 1 week longer than your longest usual period, to head in and see your doc. I hate to say this, but I see that you are 40 and it could be that your periods are starting to become more irregular. I am 33, and was told that I could be going into premature ovulatory failure. My mom went into it early. She was DONE with her period by 38. For her, her cycles started to get really long. For me, they started to get super short. Anyhow, if you dont get a little positive sign in another few days, I'd say go and get things checked out.

Hi P.. You're 40 years old. You are probably starting perimenopause - which can last 10 or more years before you get your last period. While you may still be thinking that you're in your childbearing years and a missed period means a pregnancy since you have a one year old, you are at the age when women's periods become irregular.
I would suggest a blood test at your doctor's office (don't let them try to talk you into a urine test which is no different than the HPT you can buy) to rule out pregnancy.

My first 2 tests were negative, and it wasn't until test n.3 that I found out I was 7 weeks pregnant with my daughter! When I was expecting my son last year, I decided to buy a pregnancy test that spells it out instead of showing a line as I think my hormones were too weak to show a visible line with my first pregnancy. It might be worth getting one of those or asking your doctor to take a blood test to trace HCG hormones?
Good luck!
