It think it is hormones. I had mine placed when my youngest was one 1/2 and there are times that I have more issues than some months. But yes it is having 2 kids also.

i had mirena for 5 months, put it in on my 6 weeks check up. Had mood swings, depression, tired all the time, turned into a b... and i didn't even realize that mirena did it to me untill i got rid of it. I felt like i've got myself back. But the reason to remove it was developing a huge cyst. After that i read all side effects listed on their official site and was surprised to find myself having a lot of them.

YES, YES, YES!!!! I swore that was what was wrong with me too. I had a baby, 14.5 months after my previous(they are number 3&4), and then had the IUD put in place at my 6 week check up! I immediately started feeling very impatient and short with everyone. I was moody, and depressed. People assured me it was not the IUD, including my dr. She said that it had very little hormone in it, and that most likely it was stress, even PPD?? I just knew it was the IUD though. My hubby will be starting Parker this fall (yeah, finally), so we really wanted to get this figured out so that I felt comfortable being a good mom to my kids. We decided to take it out, and seriously, it was the best decision I ever made. It may be rare, but I really felt the difference, so go with your gut on this one! Hang in there, I hope you feel better soon! ~A.~

Yikes! I just had mine out last Friday for the same reasons as these. My OB assured me that what I was experiencing was not "normal" for users of the Mirena, but my family doc told me that she has known several women, especially those who have had three or more children in a short time frame (like me...3 girls in less than 5 years) who have experienced The Craziness.

I don't think it is PPD because my daughter is 9 months old and I was fine until the Mirena, only 4 months ago.

This is my 2nd one. I had one inserted after my 2nd child was born and experienced no problems. This time I have felt like a stranger in my own body. I am looking forward to feeling normal again soon.

Also, any family doctors that do gynecological stuff can easily remove it.

The mirena has the same hormones as many BC pills. If you don't want hormonal issues, I would suggest you change to a copper IUD. They contain absolutely no hormones with about the same level of protection.

I can't have anything with hormones because of blood clotting issues and the fact they make me a paranoid, ubber witch!

Go talk to your dr.

I've had no problems, but I have heard some women tell me the same thing.

I've had the Mirena iud for four years, at the very beginning I had hormone side effects and the cramping other responders have described, but after about six months, it has been smooth sailing. The best part is NO PERIODS!! I love it! I'm older (41) so I've been blaming the weight gain on age, I wonder if the iud could be a factor? Good question for my ob! BTW, my husband graduated from Parker in 92, he has a successful practice in Tyler. Good luck to you guys!

YES, I just had my Mirena IUD taken out after 2 1/2 months. I was emotional, tired, moody. I couldn't loose the baby weight (and I have always been a thin person). Then I started reading online and all over the web are women with the same issues after the Mirena was put in (some with even worse problems like the Mirena imbedding into the uterus!) When I had mine removed I started bleeding REALLY heavy, which I guess is also very common but no doctors tell you that! I am so glad it is out. If you think about it, we put your bodies through A LOT by being pregnant then giving birth, and right when it is trying to heal we shove a foreign object in there and tell it to behave...not likely.

I have been a member of Mamasource for a while now. Questions regarding the Mirena IUD come up alot on this site most of the questions are just like yours and most answers are that the Mirena is a bad choice because of the side effects. My friend had the Mirena IUD and lost massive amounts of hair. I had the Copper IUD for 4 years and loved it never had one problem with it. I cannot take any BC with hormones so the Copper IUD was a great for me. Good Luck!! Congrats on your babies.

Mirena made me nuts - but it could have just been the pain.

2 kids will definitely keep you on your toes, though.

Not sure how long you have had the Mirena, but I've had it for 2yrs and I haven't had any problems. Check the date of input and when the changes with yourself begin, if the changes occurred after the insertion maybe it's the Mirena. Talk with your doctor also.

I had the Mirena IUD in for 10 months and just had it removed last week. I had many symptoms--gained 10lbs, no sex drive, cramping in abdomen and lower back, headaches, lack of concentration, mild depression, stuffy nose, and itching breasts. I started doing research online and found that a lot of women were experiencing the same side effects. I honestly don't know if I can blame all of these on the Mirena but, I definitely would not know if I did not have it removed. I tried to give it a year hoping everything would even out by then but, gave up and had it removed early.

Hey J. -

You are NOT crazy!

I currently have the Mirena, had it placed in October 2007. After months of frustration with "symptoms" that were un-explainable, i.e. 27 lbs of weight gain in 10 months, chronic vulvar itching, hairy yeast infections and dryness, NO sex drive, moodiness, severe headaches, bulging tummy and pain in my lower left quadrant, cramping, non-stop spotting, etc. and 3 visits to OB-GYN's complaining, only to be told that it is in my mind, that the Mirena does NOT cause these symptoms, I found this website that might help you:
http://curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=70147. Although I didn't read all 500+ responses, I read more than half of them and apparently, there are a LOT of us out there with these issues with the Mirena.

The biggest frustration I have, why are all of these Doctors making us feel like we are mental? Are they getting some kind of gynormeous kickback from Bayer, the makers of Mirena? I was laughed at when I told my doctor my symptoms. I am a prior service member, so I get my care through the VA. I have tried to change doctors, but there is only one at the Dallas VA that can put in or remove the Mirena, so I have to go through her. I may just go to Planned Parenthood and see if they can remove it for me.

Either way, this little evil thing is coming out!

Best of luck!
C.
