Mirena - Palm Coast,FL

Hi, I have had the Mirena since June, 2008 and have had no problems with it. After a few months, I no longer had any cramps or a cycle at all. I would highly recommend it.

I've been taking it for about a year and a half now. I haven't experienced any problems or side effects. It pinched a little when inserted but other than that, no problems. My periods are lighter and shorter now as well. Some women supposedly don't get their's at all - wish that was me. LOL I wouldn't worry about it if I were you, you'll be fine. Good Luck!

i have the Mirena and personally I love it! It was a bit of a transition at first. I had some cramps and decreased sexual desire, but then after about 2 months my body seemed to adjust. I did notice I get more tired around my period with slightly heavier cramps. However, my periods have lightened (which is a good thing). Other than those things, though, it is great to not worry about taking a pill every day!

I have had my Mirena for 7 weeks and I love it. It was a little uncomfortable to have it inserted, just mild cramping and not too much worse than an annual exam. My doc used a numbing agent as well. But after 2 c-sections, epidurals, and such, it was a breeze. I do have some irregular spotting but I can just wear a small liner or light tampon for a day or 2. I was told this would last for about 3 months and to hang in there. My hubby has felt it a couple times, but after a bit the strings kind of get pushed to the side and they stay out of the way. Actually, at my follow up visit last week, she almost had to do an ultrasound to find the string, but it was still there, no big deal. She said it's better to have the strings a little longer so they can move to the side, if they are shorter they will always poke your partner. But each doc is different and each couple is different.

My insurance covered most of the cost, I just had to pay out the remainder of my deductable and pay a fee to the doctors office for the insertion & anesthetic. Good luck to you, I think you'll like it.

I love my mirena. I've had mine for 6 years (this is my second one). I haven't had a period is YEARS. Yippeee for me. The second one didn't hurt nearly as bad as the first one did (I actually sat up incredulously and asked, "Are you done?") No cons that I can think of.

With my insurance, I only had to pay a $30 copay.

I've been using Mirena for the past 7 months, and I love it! For the past 5 months my period was a little weird. ON the 15th of every month I would spot heavy, then lighter for almost 4 days. Now, it's just like a day light spotting and that's it. But, for all the methods I've had I have always had the same problem spotting and full menstrual period. From all methods I've tried this one is from far the best one out there for me. I have used from the inyection, patches (which I loved, but cause of the recall don't want to try it), pills and the one you put kind like a small thing underneath your arm (sorry forgot the name), and everything you can think of, all were the same problem for me. Maybe other people were good, but I can only speak for myself, since my system is soooo crazy. LOL! The only thing is that after using it for 3 months I went to my OBGYN, cause I'm always afraid of getting pregnant, and she did an ultrasound and it was still there but I had an ovarian cyst, but she said it was normal for some women w/the Mirena, mine went away after a month. So, make sure you do speak w/your doctor about doing an ultrasound every so often to make sure. But, from my part I can tell you I love it! so, good luck!

I just had my second child in December of 2008 and I have a 7 year old. Because of my hypertension, it was suggested that I look at an IUD for birth control instead of oral contraceptives. I decided on the Mirena. I liked the idea of the localized hormone and the fact that when it is removed your body can become pregnant again fairly quickly. The obvious pros: it is easily inserted by your doctor, you don't have to think about it, its in for 5 years, no nasty side effects of adding extra hormone to your body, like with the oral contraceptives, no moodiness, bloating, etc. The cons: When it was first inserted I was a freakshow, because I was afraid because I didn't feel it, it may have moved or shifted, and my husband complained he could feel it, which was easily remedied by having the doctor shorten the string on my check up visit. The string is stiff like fishing wire, so it takes a little time for it to soften up and that was what he was feeling. I have had it now for 6 months and I have shorter, lighter periods and freedom!!!!

I LOVE mine. It is so great to not have to think about birth control. Also, the big plus is that I have not had a period since getting it. I think a lot of that had to do with the fact I had it inserted while I was still breast feeding.
PROS: little to no periods at all, don't have to think about it, lasts for 5 years. Can get it removed if you decide to get pregnant again.
CONS: Depending on your insurance, it may or may not be covered. I have heard of people paying upwards of about $500 to get one. It is painful to get it inserted and there is some cramping afterwards, but then again, that will subside.

Hi N.! I am a SAHM and have a 5year old daughter. My experience with the Mirena Birth Control was two fold. The insertion was pretty painful for me as I was told I would not experience any discomfort but... I did. Then the first 3 months was alot of spotting. I really wanted to have it removed but didnt and once I got through that I loved it. I really only get my period once every 4-5 months and its so light. I love it now. I would say in the long run it paid off! Just be patient if you do get it.

I have the mirena, as do 3 of my family/friends. I have never had any problems or issues. About 11 months after getting it my periods stopped 100%. I do get moody still, as if pms-ing but I do not bleed. I have had it now for 2 yrs. The only, only thing that hurt was when they go to insert it they put a clamp somewhere inside, and when they do that it feels like a big period cramp. Then the clamp is taken off and I took tylenol that first day and I was fine.

I have the Mirena for 3 years now. I like the fact that I don't have to remember the pill or have to get an injection every 3 months. The only downfall that I have is a bit more discharge... but I guess that helps in other aspects. Also you can still breastfeed while on this b/c.

I spoke with a gyno (she attended scrapbooking get-togthers) and she said she put them in all the time and that she had one. That really sold me when she told me that she had one too. I must have asked her a ton of questions. She told me that almost everyone liked them, except one person. She said this person was more prone to complain about small things than all of her patients combined, so she expected that complaint.

Yes, there is some cramping the first couple of days. Take your motrin. I look it as there are only 2 - 3 days of cramps compared to not having to take b/c for the next 5 years. Good enough for me :)

Hi N.- Just got it 2 months ago after a friend told me she got it and hadn't had a period in 2 years. That sounded like heaven to me and since we decided not to have any more children, who wouldnt want to lost that ball and chain. Anyway, so far everything has been fine, however, they did not tell me that you bleed lightly and spot every day for somewhere between 2-6 months. Its not too bad for me since I have incontinence issues and wear a liner all the time anyway, but you should be aware of it. The procedure itself took all of 5 minutes with some cramping, but all in all it was as uncomfortable as a pap smear. PROS - 5 minute procedure for five years of birth control with the ability at any time to change your mind. CONS- its hormones just like the pill (although a much, much smaller dosage) and there are risks with your health. Good luck.

I have Mirena - I've had it since August 2008 - and I love it. I still have period symptoms but no period (sometimes a little spotting but that's it). I don't have anything negative to say about it! My sister has it too and loves it.
