My daugther started using miralax when she was about 2. It kicked in within a couple of days and she has never had any problems with it. Life was much more uncomfortable before we used it!

Good Morning M.,
I don't reccomend Miralax. It's a stool softener/laxative that used to be a perscription. I would go the natural route and I say this because I have. For toddlers, there are choices. Put a tablespoon of Olive oil in something he/she is drinking. You may see results in 2 days. Use Benefiber daily in the first drink of everyday. Increasing fiber intake prevents constipation. You will see results in maybe 3-4 days. You'll notice regularity. Senekot is wonderful, however, I dont believe it comes in anything but the form of a tablet. It is 100% natural and you'll seee result overnight. This you would give before bed. By morning, your baby will be fine. It is not cheap! But it is great. I am speaking from experience. Good luck what ever you decide.

Both my boys take it for constipation. It works well for them. I give it to them at night and by morning time they are ready to go to the bathroom! Make sure you stir it really well (about a full minute) till it disappears into the juice. Also make sure your child doesn't drink it too quickly...gives one of my boys a tummy ache. I give it to them with dinner, and by the end of dinner, it is gone! It is suppose to be tasteless, however, my eldest son notices it in milder drinks, like water and gatorade, so I ALWAYS put it into orange juice.
When the eldest stops taking this medication, he stops going BM. But I found something that works for his little brother and I am trying it on the him too. It is a product called FIBER-FUL at Trader Joes. Basically, it is what I call Fruit Leather...strips of dried fruit filled with TONS of fiber. I started feeding my little one these strips on the recommendation of my pediatrician and it made him go BM! I was so please! I am going to try giving this to my eldest son in the hopes of weening him off of the medication someday. The only thing is, the boys don't like the taste...afterall, it is fruit! :) So I found a silly, but effective way to give it to them. If they are doing something wrong, I correct the behavior a few times. If they choose not to change their behavior, they get a piece of leather. It has become kind of funny in our house because as soon as I pull out the bag, they sigh and realize their mistake. I can kind of see them thinking, "man, I should have listened the first time." Problem is, it has been so effective that I am not needing to give them leather as often! But I will say moms, this has been great for everyone, the boys go potty and no one hears mom nagging, all they hear is that darn bag opening...again! :)
Good luck!

I used it for my daughter all the time, the doctor told me to and said she can't become dependent on it. I tried going the natural route but it didn't work for her. I don't give her the full dose but the doctor said it was fine to. She was actually on it for months, but I would only put a sprinkle in her juice, then I went to every other day. She is fine now and doesn't need it anymore. Her doctor told me that it is better to give them the miralax because otherwise their colon will stretch out and can lead to leakage.

We use it for our 2 children w/ constipation. It works pretty quickly. According to our doc. you have to use it for a while to make sure they are all cleaned out. Plus making sure they get enough fiber is important to make the stool more firm (less watery). Our GI doc. says their age + 5 grams of fiber is how much they should have daily. We use Benefiber or Fiber Choice usually.

M.,
The best way to speak with them about what you are doing.
My son was 3 when I was pregnant with our second son. He asked lots of questions. I had a the know what to expect when expecting book. They had drawings of the baby in mommy's belly. So I would show him that and then explain it on my belly. I told him that I was keeping him safe until his birthday.
Then when my son was born and I started to breastfeed he again had many questions. I answered all of the truthfully. I explained that right now mommy makes milk that the baby needs to get strong and that cow's milk didn't have all of the extra stuff that the baby needed to get strong. He asked why did it come out of my "belly pits", boobs... I said that that is where the milk was made in mommies because the baby needed an easy place to feed from when mommy was holding the baby.
I hope this helps. I know that the questions they ask can make you uncomfortable, but be as honest as you can.
