I want to keep my 11 month old breastfeeding for as long as possible. I nurse every couple of hours and before she eats any solids. This past week she started sleeping through the night. Will my supply effected negatively. At first I was full in the morning but not so much now. Also it only takes 10 or so minutes for her to nurse. Is that normal?

What can I do next?

I first of all would be thankful for the all night sleeping! I know I was at that point! If you want to keep a morning supply, pump for a bit of stored milk when you wake up.

I was told extra sleep for mama had a positive effect on milk supply. Hooray for sleeping through the night!!

you could pump in the middle of the night at the time she used to nurse and it will prevent a negative effect from that dropped nursing session. check out kelly mom .com for more information on keping your supply up as baby drops sessions.

It's completely normal for her to only take 10 minutes to eat. They usually get more efficient as they get older, so it doesn't take as long. Also, if you are nursing every couple of hours, she's probably not very hungry.at each feeding.

Relax! Your body is doing a great job of providing for her needs. If your supply has gone down, it's because she does not need as much. Table food is becoming more important for her, as breast milk is not going to satisfy her caloric needs. She needs that table food, and she's going to need it more and more as she grows.

What you are experiencing is normal.

I would think 10 minutes would be pretty typical if it's every 2 hours and she's also onto solids. Sounds about right.

And your milk supply will not be as full during the night if you've stopped getting up to feed. It adjusts over a short while to meet her needs. If you nurse during the day - it will be ok during the day. Mine was :)

Her demand will go up and down as she grows and your supply will adjust. The actual content of your milk will also change to meet her needs. If you are feeding on demand, you have nothing to worry about! If you typically have issues with your supply, there are lots of things to try. If she has been doing well, you should be on track for no issues with the schedule change. Mine breastfed until nearly 3 and 3.5, lots of changes over those years :)

Both are normal. As long as you are nursing during the day, you will keep making milk. And your daughter is probably just really efficient at nursing. Nothing to worry about.
