Milk Drying Up! - Rockwall,TX

I think my milk is drying up!! I was really sick w/an infection in my c-section incision, and ran high fevers for a few days and was dehydrated and did not pump as much as I should have, and now my supply has decreased SIGNIFICANTLY!! Any help or advice on how to produce more or is it gone??? I have increased pumping and still nothing!

What can I do next?

Hey C.,

I have used an herb called Fenugreek (sp) to help keep my milk supply up with all three of my children. The only side effect is that you smell a little like maple syrup. In my case my husband didn't mind. (He loves IHOP!) You can purchase Fenugreek at any health food store.

Take care,

It could possibly be that your body is just adjusting to your daughter's needs. Are you pumping after you feed? You will naturally not feel as "full" as you did after your milk came in. Please don't give up...remember it's supply and demand. As long as your daughter is producing wet diapers (I think maybe 8 at 2 weeks, but don't quote me on that), she IS getting what she needs! If it makes you feel better, you can always go in for a consultation with a lactation specialist. Most of the time these are covered by insurance. Good luck to you and congrats on your new bundle of joy!

I hope that isn't the case for you! There is a lactation consultant in Fairview (near Allen)who has been a great help to me - Judy Eastburn ###-###-####).
When I've been worried about my supply (which is pretty much every day!) I just try to drink a lot of water and I use Fenugreek. There's also a tea called Mother's Milk - both are available at Central Market/Whole Foods.
Good luck and congrats on your little girl.

Hi C.~

Any antibiotics you were on for an infection would have an inpact on your milk supply. I would check with your OB. I have heard a lot of great things about the mother's milk tea. If you really feel that your supply is down you could increase your pumping so that your body will tell you to make more milk. Always go by your daughter though. If she is making enough wet diapers and not acting out of the ordinary lethargic than she is great! Hope that helps!
