Mildew on Clothes - Fair Grove,MO
Is it possible to get mildew out of colored clothes? My son has a beautiful bright orange shirt that got left under a wet towel and now has mildew on it. I have washed it twice, but have not dried it yet. The stain is still very visible. Is it possible to save this shirt? I am soaking it in Oxy clean right now, but so far it doesnt seem to be lighting up any.

Yes, it's still possible to save it....get some lemon's and squeeze the juice...soak the shirt/stain in lemon juice (preferrably overnight), then wring out and let sit out on porch or on line in sun for the day...the stains should diminish. Rewash and should be as good as new...just don't forget to bring it in...I forgot my daughters shirt and now the stains are gone but the front is lighter than the back (dummy me!)

I haven't found anything for colored clothes that will remove mildew, so if someone responds with a suggestion,I would be interested to know what it is. Thanks

I would do one more rinse & then hang outside to dry. Leave it out all day if needed. Make sure it is in the sunlight. (You can just lay it out on the grass on a towel or on your car if you don't have a clothsline.) Be sure to turn it over every once in a while.
It may not work, but if sunlight won't get it out, nothing will.
I HTH!

i used simple green...it worked great...I did not dilute it as it says, never have. Simple green frequently is in the automotive aisle, for cleaning cars/boats. It tells to dilute for laundry on the bottle...don't bother, I've used it on my best clothes including dry clean only and never had a problem. It definitely worked on mildew and blood!

Not sure how well this would work, but I found this site

and they have lots of tips for other things as well. The first thing I thought of off the top of my head was white vinegar, maybe it would help. Good luck and I hope you are able to get it out!

Vinegar works well to get mildew out. Throw 1/2 cup in the load.
