I am assuming that this isn't your OB/GYN that prescribed this. Call him/her and ask. You can also call a lactation consultant, or Pharmacist as I believe that they have the books that categorize the medication. I haven't heard of any migraine medication that works during pregnancy, so I would be skeptical too.

Not a problem. I have been on Inderal since the late 80's and totally though my pregnancy and am still on it today. I never had a problem. Just be sure to always remind the Nurses and the Doctor every time you go for an appt. and also when you are in labor tell the medical staff or your midwife.

Inderal is a medication used to lower blood pressure and it has also been found helpful in controlling migraines. Inderal can slow your heart rate so your dr. should have showed you how to monitor your heart rate by counting your radial pulse. Check with him to see what he feels is an acceptable pulse rate for you. It can also cause fatique. I suffer from daily migraines and I am currently being treated with another medication which I know that you would not want to take while preganant. (I am now migraine free). Migraines are terrible, I hope that the medication helps you become migraine free.

I'm so sorry to hear you are having migraine problems!! I had them when pregnant with my son in 2008 and sadly, they've never really gone away. My OB sent me to a neurologist, and after the MRI that confirmed my marbles were all intact, she put me on inderal. I had no problems with the pregnancy. OB did monthly ultrasounds to confirm baby boy was growing okay (which he was) and before delivery I was weened off the inderal as it could cause slowing of baby's heartbeat during delivery. Everything was A-OK, just had to keep my doctors informed of all my medications.

I hope all goes well with your pregnancy!! Migraines are the worst!!!

I had migraines before my pregnancy and luckily it went away with the pregnancy. Now I get them again and I take Maxalt. Something to keep in mind if you plan to nurse. You can always call you local milkbank to check if a drug is harmful in breastmilk. I found this on inderal and pregnancy.

I don't have any information on that medicine but wanted to ask if you are taking omega 3? and/or eating enough food sources that have it?

If not - look in to it. Not only is it known to help with migraines, it's great for a pregnant Momma.

Best wishes,
M.

it's pregnancy category C, meaning it should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks. so, if you are having severe severe pain that can't be treated effectively with tylenol, you are vomiting and losing weight due to the pain, or having some other major issues related to the migraines, then it is probably an appropriate decision. i would assume that your OB/GYN prescribed this for you, so if he/she feels it is in your best interest, i would be compelled to take it. i took it during my middle child's pregnancy briefly, but b/c it is actually a blood pressure lowering medication, i had trouble with it b/c my blood pressure naturally runs very low - so i was having some trouble with dizziness. my husband is a pharmacist and he was okay with me taking it(until the dizziness started), and obviously he wouldn't have been okay with it if he felt it was terribly unsafe. good luck and hope your migraines are better soon!

I was a migrainer for years and yes, I stayed on the migraine medication while pregnant. Mine was fentanyl. There may be risks in taking any meds during pregnancy, but you have to way the pros and cons. Of course, your doc will monitor you very closely and the risks of migraining during pregnancy will not only affect you but the baby. We all know it's rare but your could stroke during a migraine, also blood pressure really rises during a migraine attack and this could lead to preeclampsia. The good news is I haven't had a migraine since my baby was delivered. The last one occurred on the delivery table, once he was removed via c-section. Good luck!
