Middle School Formal Dance

What do your middle school aged daughters wear to formal dances held in the winter & where do you buy it? I know it can be a dress/skirt or pants. Even though it is called a formal, I'm thinking it will not be as formal as a prom is, considering their age & that the boys are not required to wear tuxes. Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

A nice dress, a little more on the dressy side than a sundress might be. Check out JC Penny or Macy's or Deb's.

My DD wore a black and white dress that was very appropriate for her age and church. It is sleeveless, with a high neck and back. Kind of a choker type with no cleaveage. Full skirt past her knees. She wore it to her 8th grade party/dance and her first homecoming dance at the high school. Both girls still wear it for nice events, church, and weddings.

Low heels, dangly black earrings and her hair down. I did put it up for homecoming though.

Even though it is cooler out...the girls at my daughter's school still wear spaghetti strapped dresses or strapless short dresses. I know it sounds ridiculous...I agree. But they are very cute and....no cleaveage for my daughter. They just wear their coats or jackets to the dances. We have bought one at Deb's and one at JC Penney. Good luck!

I think most boys will wear slacks like dockers, oxford style shirts and ties. Most girls will wear long or tea length dresses that are as glitzy as possible. Think a little fancier than church dress but not as formal and beaded as prom.
