OK -
So, we are finally ready to get rid of the scuzzy couch that inhabits the front of our house ... one of the first things you see when you enter. It's old, awful, has seen it's better days, and yet, it's material, a pale colored weave, has stood up to A LOT to date, and is very forgiving of any mess/spills.
We are looking at new couches, sectionals to fill the spot, and my husband has microfiber in his head, possible pale colored stuff.
We've got a 2 year old and baby ... so many years of spills and messes to come. Do I fight for leather or will a good fabric protection program/spray cover us?
Inquiring minds want to know.

I have two sets of twins and had a large tan sectional in microfiber. I'd go with leather if I were you. The microfiber is soft, and mine had fabric protector on it, and it was still hard to keep clean. It wasn't even that old and we replaced it with leather. The leather has been awesome! Good luck!
We have a microfiber couch and we need to clean it with ever spill. Most things do come out but with really good cleaning. You can wash the cushions covers. I don't recommend it. I need to take out the carpet cleaner and attachment to get any spill, even water out. ughh
We have a microfiber couch that we purchased b-4 our son (2.5) was born and it has been great! He was a "spitter" as an infant and the couch cleans up with just water - never a stain. We purchased same fiber for sectional in basement as it has been such a great fabric.
I have a microfiber couch in my family room and to tell you the truth, I wouldn't recommend buying microfiber. I love the look but every drool mark, wet hand mark, etc shows up. Yes with a lot of scrubbing you can make the mark lighter but then there seems to be a shadow around the area that was wet from cleaning. If I could go back, I would buy all leather. We have a leather chair in the same room and cleaning up leather is so easy it is worth the extra cost!
Nice choice carpet, not at all child friendly. Oak floors are the best. they wipe up clean in no time. Couch, Ashley furniture,Arlington Heights, has a huge assortment that is not only baby friendly but made to order and material treated and guaranteed for like 10 years if it breaks, tears, etc, to be replaced by new furniture!!!! I love mine. Good luck. Oh, I forgot to mention that the furniture is very reasonable too.
My husband and I bought a microfiber couch and loveseat and it is AWESOME! I have scrubbed ballpoint pen out of it with hairspray (we have older neices and nephews) and you cannot tell! Ours is a Sage Green and has survived our 16 month old son since birth. With a2 year old and a baby - I think a darker color would be a must, but the material is excellent!
Honey get the leather. I too have a 2 year old and cream furniture and carpet. I am in the process of getting leather and hardwood floors. Tell the hubby that he has got to be practical and think about the big picture. He can have microfiber and cream when the kids get 15!
