Menstruation & Milk Supply

I am one of the lucky few who got my period less than 2 months post-partum. I've noticed the last couple of months that my milk supply is drastically reduced the week of my period. I'm currently drinking Mother's Milk Tea, Fenugreek Seed Tea and taking a Fenugreek Seed supplement. None of this works during this time.
Has this happened to anyone? How do you deal?
I work full time and can't pump more than 3 times per work-day. However, I am lucky enough to work from home this week and can BF my son every 2 hours. Is this how its going to be every month?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone. I will try all of the suggestions. =-)

It looks like I'm back to normal now. Its just that one week. I think I'll try the calcium and the oatmeal. I've also been sticking with my herbal supplements and drinking lots more water.
Sleep will be a difficult one. My DS wakes 2-3 times at night (more when supply is low).
Thanks Again!

Your OB can prescribe you reglan. It boosts your milk supply. Have you tried eating oatmeal also. Oatmeal is a natural way to do it and does work. I would stick to the oatmeal though.Hope that helps...

I haven't gotten my period yet (Knock on wood), but I had a dip in my supply around month 5. I went from pumping 5 oz each time to 1/2 oz. I went on a Fenugeek regiment. Wondering how many you are currently taking? For one week, I was taking 9 pills a day - 3 at each meal. Now that my supply is back, I am taking 3 only at night. I also eat a bowl of oatmeal every morning and try to drink more water. Rest - ha! What is that? I have a 6 month old who is up at least 1-2 times a night still!!

I got my period early, too, after having my twins. I was home with them, but I noticed the same thing with the huge reduction in my milk supply. I didn't ever try any supplements, but for the week of my period, I avoided extra caffeine and tried to eat more whole meals - protein, fruit, and veggies. I also did my best to get extra sleep and extra water - like 12-15 cups a day instead of my usual 10 that I was getting to keep up with my twins. I'd say nurse as much as you can during this week when you're home. Next month, if you can anticipate the arrival of your period, start pumping a bit on the weekends (to get ahead and boost supply) or work in extra feedings where ever you can. Breastfeeding, while natural and healthy, is a commitment that requires planning. You can do it, just make a plan and stick to it. You won't regret it later. I nursed my daughter for 13 months and my twins for 12 months. It wasn't always easy, and I could've given up countless times, but I didn't and it was worth it! Do what is ultimately right for you, but many congrats for sticking to it while working!!
