Meds for Acid Reflux in infants...Reglan?
My daughter is 3.5 months with bad acid reflux. We first tried previcid and now she is also taking reglan because the upper GI test showed she was asperating the formula. I haven't heard many good things about Reglan and I was looking for more info/experiences. Any one try alternative meds? Thank you!

So What Happened?™
Thank you all for your help. This was the first time using the site and it was nice to get so much help! We went to a different Dr. yesterday who said the first Dr. put her on too high of a dose and she was having side effects! He cut the meds in half and we will be off it in a week, and had me switch to regular similac and add rice cereal and in just 30 hours I have a completely different child, she is MUCH happier and so am I! The difference is night and day! I finally trusted myself and I feel good that I was right. Yeah!!!

I know exactly what your are going through, since we experienced the same a couple of years ago (I promise it will pass!). At first, our child took Prevacid, but we thought it really did not do a whole lot. Than we started using Reglan but we were concerned about all the negative info we gathered about it, so later we switched to Bethanacol, which helped a bit.
In the end, we decided to focus on ways to make him more comfortable in terms of feeding. We gave him partially broken-down formulas to make his digestion easier, we figured out a bolus-feeding schedule (small portions more often), after feedings we took turns holding him in an upright position, we placed his bed in a 45 degree angle, etc.
I suggest checking out the specific reflux section at this parent support website: http://parent-2-parent.com/forum/index.php
Good luck!

what are they going to do next - prescribe antidepresants to infants? Find good homeopath, the one who is not MD.

I do know of something that has helped a lot of adults with reflux. It is safe for babies and very nutritious. Please let me know if you would like some info on it.
God bless!

I would look at diet. You need to change the formula as your daughter is having a problem with that formula. Babies aren't suppose to have reflux unless there is soemthing going on. Many families have use a formula called Neocate (www.neocate.com) or the one from vancesfoods. If you are dealing with food allergies already, go to www.tacanow.org and check out everything there under GF-CF Diet. It is all in one place for families written by families.
Please make sure YOU have done the research on vaccinations for YOUR child. Sounds like she is already having problems and I would seriously look at vaccines. The AAP recommended schedule of shots for children is too many, too soon. Here are sites and books that I always recommend for people to start their research:
www.909shot.com
www.tacanow.org
Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies: The Groundbreaking Program for the 4-A Disorders, by Dr. Kenneth Bock
The Vaccine Book, by Dr. Robert Sears
What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Childhood Vaccinations, by Dr. Stephanie Cave
Evidence of Harm, by David Kirby
Good luck. It's not fun when they are having problems when they are so little :o( but it does get better :o)

My son had bad reflux as an infant and I remember having to open the capsule, divide the little balls inside in half, and get him to swallow them. Not easy for an infant, but I found a way to make it work. The medicine only helped marginally.
The doctor wasn't invested in doing anything more invasive. because the problem will eventually correct itself (baby's sphincter muscle to keep food down will get stronger in time). In the 4th month, she told me to forget about the meds and to start solid foods earlier, so I started Barley mixed in with the breastmilk sometime in the 4th month. Dr was right, the condition improved, but I do recall him needing a bib 24/7 for the entire 1st year.

You might want to set an appointment for a consultation with an NAET practitioner (I go to Dr. David Karaba in Fullerton at East West Medical Group) as I remember him mentioning that acid/reflux is often an allergy symptom, and with NAET they can cure allergies. Dr. Karaba's phone number is ###-###-####. Or you can visit naet.com to use the physician locator service.
Best wishes
