Medela Swing Pump-Single Electric

Has anybody used this pump? I know everyone is different as far as milk production goes but were you ladies able to pump a good amount in each sitting? Was it comfortable? Worth the money? Did anybody have problems with it? Thanks for the input!

What can I do next?

I used this pump the first couple of weeks when I was breastfeeding. I have to say, I only breastfed for 3 weeks..not too long...this pump worked, but I was not really satisfied w/ the time that it took, but that could be that I am not on overly patient person when it comes to certain things! :) It definitely worked better then the Evenflo I tried for my first....Also, I still have the Medela Swing pump along w/ a lot of extra storage bottles that were hardly used (some not at all). If you decide to go w/ this pump, I would be more than willing to sell it to you for 1/2 the price of a new one plus all the extra storage bottles....I'm sure you can get a new "cup" thing for it....just an idea. Let me know if you are interested.

I used the Medela brand for all three kids. It worked the best. Once your milk is established (after 5 months), you can pretty much use any pump, but by then it is easier to use what you have. You can rent one from the hospital as an option. If you are impatient, then the Medela is the only one to use getting started. I had my husband go out 4 times in the middle of the night with my 3rd child. She wouldn't eat because she wanted to sleep for the first couple of nights home. Nothing he brought home worked. My friend, had a Medela with 2 pumps, let me borrow it, and it worked great! I was pretty desperate to pump since the baby missed her late feeding, and it was very painful. I've also used the hand held Medela pump, and it was ok, but I liked the hand held Advent one best. So, go with the Medela one if you have to pick one and get the double instead of the single if you want it to go faster. And get the Advent hand held one for when your milk is established. But pumping is a slow process anyway. It took me 10 to 15 on each side and 5 minutes to clean. So you are looking at 25-35 minutes of your time at each sitting. I was so grateful for the Medela pump. It worked when nothing else did to get me started. I breast fed all my kids for 12 months. My kids are now almost 3, 7, and 9 years old.

Hi J.,
I have this pump and used it for the first 6 months or so, its best as an intermittent use type of pump. I got to the point where I was needing to pump 2+ times a day and it just didnt' cut it. Took too long and didn't have strong enough suction to keep me stimulted. If you just need it for every now and then, its great, but probably not more than once a day. I loved how portable it is, because its small. It comes with soft cups, which I found changed shape with time and the suction wasn't as strong. So, I ordered the sturdier plastic ones, but this was just my preference and could be due to small breasts. I ended up renting the medela symphony at 6 months because my milk supply was getting too low and I was needing to pump more often.

I have the Medela Instyle breast pump and it worked great. I am done with it and going to put it on Craigslist. Research it and let me know if you'd be interested. I am not having any more children and will no longer need it. Best of luck to you!

I think it really depends on how often you are planning on using it. I use the Swing about once a day and it is adequate, but sometimes I really wish I had spent the extra $ to get a double pump. I can get about 5oz pumped in about 20min. with the Swing.
