I feel really stupid, but I can't figure out how to attach the tube to the Medela breast shield (I bought the one that comes with the valves).
I have been using an older breastshield to pump that just has a very simple piece that the tube is attached to. You just put it on and it pumps from there. I cannot find any other ones like this to buy, the only ones I can find to buy are the Medela breast shield package. Well I bought the package that comes with the parts, and was only see holes on the back part of the shield. I feel very dumb, but cannot figure out how everything attaches together. I am so tired of cleaning the old ones 4 tmes a day and would love to use my new ones, I just don't understand how (and there weren't any instructions that came with it in the box). If somebody could help me, I would reallly appreciate it.
I use the Medela Pump in Style

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I figured out what was wrong, I was using the wrong tubing. I found the tubing that came with the pump (with the yellow pieces) and am all set. Thank you for your help!

I believe there are 2 types of tubing they sell - one that's all rubber and one that's rubber but has hard plastic on one end. The hard plastic would fit into the hole in the back part of the shield, the rubber end into the machine.

You can try contacting Medela directly for assistance. They can sell you parts separately. You can also check with a local Lactation Consultant. She might be able to help you get the part you need. If it is an older pump, they might have changed the parts. Hope it helps.

Go to www.medela.com, click on products and find the particular Pump in Style that you use (backpack, shoulder bag, etc.). Once on the product page for your style, there are links (pdf) to the user manuals......

I would love to help you but it is really hard to understand just from your description. I do know that Medela makes different tubing for the Pump in Style regular and advanced....so maybe you have the wrong tubing? You can look online to find the correct kind for your pump. There are lots of sites that sell individual parts instead of kits so you could buy just the tubing if you have the wrong tubing. On most Medela pumps the tubing connects to the back part of the shield (the part that faces away from your body).

It might be best to contact an LC or LLL and see if someone can come look at your pump and help you. I would say you could contact Medela but if your pump had no docs with it I would assume it's probably used and in that case Medela won't help you.

Hi B. ~
I'm an OB nurse and we rent these pumps out alot...which end are you not sure of? the pump piece attaches to the top of the bottles, on the back of the piece that screws on the bottle is a little hole. plug the tubing into that. the other end goes to the piston that attaches to the pump.
hope that helps!
if not, email me and maybe we can figure it out (I'm trying to picture it in my head as I write :)

If the tubing does not have the yellow ends, it should still work as Michelle said. I've successfully used it both ways.

Does your tube have a little yellow plastic piece stuck in it? The piece would be about an inch long, half inside the tube and half outside. On mine, the little yellow plastic thing fit into the hole in the back of the shield. You might have a shield that is incompatible with your tubing?
