Meal Ideas for 11 Month Old?

My 11 month old son is "telling" me he is ready for regular food. He is beginning to dislike baby food since he can't chew it. I am really excited about this, but I am running out of ideas for finger foods and meals for him. We have tried mac and cheese, cut up pieces of toast and jam, canned veggies or fruit (no salt/sugar added) and other things along that line.

Maybe I am just not ready to start feeding him what I eat, but I am just confused what to make for him. I hate to make a bunch of food since he and I are the only ones home during the day. Besides that, I am not the epitome of a healthy eater like I try to do for my son. (Probably not a bad idea to start though)

Essentially I am looking for breakfast/lunch meal ideas for my 11 month old and I.

What can I do next?

Some ideas: microwaved sweet potatoes, grapes, peaches, nectarines, apricots, bananas, beans, avocados, clementines, bread dipped in hummus, soup, frozen peas, cooked carrots, cooked cauliflower, cooked broccoli, rice, quesadillas, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, pasta with or without any kind of sauce (tomato, pesto, creamy). I would think he's ready to start eating what you eat, but he's probably going to follow your example, so this might be a great opportunity to improve the quality of your eating too! Good luck!

My pediatrician told me to start feeding my daughter whatever I am eating. The things I was advised to stay away from until their second birthday are egg whites, peanuts, peanut butter, and honey. Also to be careful fo raisins and other small things that can be choking hazards.

Breakfast- toast, waffles, pancakes, cut up fresh fruit, dry cereal or cereal with milk, oatmeal, eggs, breakfast potatoes.

Lunch- cheese and meat cut into chunks with crackers, quesadilla's cut into bits, fresh or frozen veggies cut up and warm, grilled cheese,

Really at this age he can eat whatever you are eating, just cut into smaller bits so he can pick them up. www.wholesomebabyfood.com is a great site, check it out! :)

He's ready. Feed him what you're feeding him. He'll be fine. No more jarred food. He's hungry.

At this age he can eat a lot of what you eat. Easy breakfast foods my kids eat are oatmeal, waffles, pancakes, scrambled eggs (just egg yolks until 1yr), fruit (should be cut into small enough pieces), yogurt (yobabies makes one made with whole milk in the organic section). Lunch ideas: deli meat, grilled cheese, grilled ham and cheese, pasta, pizza, frozen veggies, just about anything you would feed yourself. Just make sure food is cut into small enough pieces so he doesn't choke. Other good misc. foods are cottage cheese, regular cheese, legumes. Hope this gives you some ideas. Good Luck!

I have a son the exact age and for breakfast we have tried yogurt which he loves, scrambled egg yoke, pancake no syrup, cheerios, cereal bars. Yogurt cover raisins chopped into small pieces, oatmeal, fruit, toast and french toast no syrup. For lunch we have done sandwiches, chopped cooked veggies, spaghetti, stew, hotdishes of any sort. I usually take left overs from the night before and put in the fridge for him to have at dinnerthe next day. Gerber also makes some finger food, that come in jars that work great for on the go. They cost a little more than a jar of food though.

my neice who turns 1 on saturday, gets basically what we eat. Spaghetti, meat loaf, chicken, chicken nuggets (baked of course), hot dogs, mashed potatoes, stuffing, turkey, pancakes, waffles, eggs, toast, dry cereal, animal crackers, teddy grahams....

Just cut up and with no spices/butter added. make him a ham sandwich, no mayo or butter...just cut it up into bite size pieces...it will fall apart, but he will enjoy it!

Just make sure that if you do give him the ham sandwich also give him some fruit and veggies to balance the meal. Last night we had mashed potatoes, peas and Chicken nuggets that were made on the pizzazz pizza oven (I absolutely LOVE that machine!) Abby actually ate 90% of her meal! usually she feeds about half to the dog...your son will enjoy eating more if he has what you are having...good luck, there are MANY options out there!

You've been given some really good ideas. In addition to a lot of the things listed by others, my daughter loved (and still does love):
- kashi brand waffles (they have more fiber and protein than other brands)
- tofu cut in little blocks
- morning star brand soy sausage patties (these are great because you just pop them in the microwave for 30 sec.)
- baked sweet potato fries
- little chunks of meatloaf (I make it with grated zucchini and carrots "hidden" in it to get more veggies in her)

Good luck!
