Mattress Recommendations

My husband is 6'4" and weights 225, I am 5'6" and weigh 135 lbs. When my husband gets into bed he weighs it down so much that I roll into him all night long! We have decided its time to get a new bed. We like firmer mattresses and I would LOVE one that wouldn't move when he climbs into bed. What ones do you recommend and how much did they cost? Thanks!

The best is: going to a bed store.... ask the clerks there...and they will really offer good info and help.
And you can actually try out the bed.

That is what my sister did.

I did try the Sleep Number bed and didn't care for it. However, alot of people love them. Right now, I have a traditional mattress, with a memory foam topper and then a feather bed on top of that. I love it and it is pretty stable as far as other people getting in and out of it.

Good luck!

Definitely a tempurpedic! My ex weighed more than your husband and we tried different varieties of regular mattresses, the sleep number bed (HATED it) and then a tempurpedic. It's totally awesome and it solved our rolling problem because the bed conforms to your body shape.

Simmons. The independently pocketed coils really work. You won't feel any movement from your hubby and won't roll into each other. Remember every new bed you try will feel good because your current bed is worn out. Be sure to lay on the bed at the store and have your hubby bounce on the bed on his side, on the Simmons you won't feel it. Memeory Foam is HOT and does nothing for comfort. All it does is spring back into shape and makes the bed look like it isn't saging as it ages. You will also need a new bed frame, be sure the new frame has support in the middle this prevents saging. Most stores offer them for free, when you buy a new mattress set.
A good matress set costs around $1500 or about 55 cents a day for a good nights sleep.
You can get a split box spring it's a little more money but worth it if you live in an older home where corners are often tight and moving a mattress and box spring are a challenge. You can also get a low profile box spring, only 4.5 inches instead of 9, so the bed is not so far off the floor and makes moving it easier.

tempurpedic. they have different thickness, hence different price range. They are build similar but more superior to memory foam. Give it a try, I think they even have a 60 days free trial.

Ours has memory foam (I'm pretty sure) and I hate it. We have been through 3 mattresses in about 6 years, and it's not that we are heavy or having "that much fun" on our mattresses! We have a king bed and you can see the "valley" (as I call it) where each of us sleeps with a bump in the middle (which is actually where the level is supposed to be). It does not return to it's original thickness/level. I will be eagerly checking your responses as well! Not sure where we are going wrong, but it's soooo frustrating.

My hubby is shorter (5'10") but about 215...his pals call his a keg with legs! LOL I am 5'5" and about 140. We had similar issues..mostly the jostling bed, as I have sleep issues and wake easily (after having difficulty falling asleep!). We got an IKEA latex mattress, then added our thick memory foam (Sam's club brand) back to the top of it from our previous inner spring mattress. We LOVE it. I sleep so so so much better and can not feel when he tosses and turns, ever. It is NOT a bed my teen DD can come in and flounce on and it poofs back and boings with her...its pretty stationary in that respect!

It has really helped both of us to sleep. We already had a Room and Board bed frame with the European slat system (we are about the only country that actually uses both box and mattress systems...most use just the mattress and some sort of platform or slat system bed), so this latex mattress was perfect, altho hubby did end up putting plywood under it, as he wanted to ensure firmness?? I think its a guy mattress thing???

Works for us!

We just got a big boy bed for our son and also looked at beds for us. We have a Latex bed (Denver Mattress - stay away from them!), and it divots terribly. The bed we liked best at the bed store was a Simmons "Black Label." It was firm and WONDERFUL. I don't remember the exact name, but there are several different levels of firmness, and the black label beds have black accents on the mattress, so you can't miss them. Definitely go to a bed store! We liked the Tempurpedics but not the price, and we've also read reviews that say that they "sleep hot," which we definitely don't want! My hubby is 200 pounds, and I couldn't even feel him climb into the Simmons Black Label. Good luck!

I highly recommend a Sleep Number bed. They have different models and vary in price. My hubby and I got one about 3 1/2 years ago and we still love it. He likes his side of the bed a little more firm and I like mine a little softer and we can adjust our sides accordingly. Also, because there are two separate air compartments (one for each side) we never feel eachother getting in and out of bed or moving around. We had a Simmons Beautyrest pillowtop mattress before our Sleep Number Bed and it only lasted about 5-6 years before it started to get uncomfortable (and I could feel every move my husband made - even with the individually wrapped coils). By the time we got rid of it we had been sleeping on it for 8 1/2 years and we were both waking up in the morning with all kinds of aches and pains and we never felt all that rested. Our Sleep Number bed has made a huge difference.
