One of my 8 yr old has been complaining about the springs in his mattress. He has been sleeping on the floor which he says is to hard. In the middle of the night he sometimes moves to a chair in the living room. I was wondering if the inexpensive foam mattress toppers like from Walmart could actually help. Has anyone bought one of these and did it work? Thank you for your help.

I see there are a few toppers that are inexpensive, but most are $100-200~ why not go to Sam's Club & buy a new matress for the same price?
I bought a 2 inch memory foam topper at Kohls on sale for 40 bucks - it helped our crappy old bed sooo much. We really need a new mattress but can't afford one right now so I thought I would give it a try and it really helped. Just let it air out for a bit when you get it because they are loaded with chemicals.
My queen-size foam topper was about $200 but it has been wonderful. My teen granddaughter has 1/2 of her parents' toppers since her dad hates them which caused my dtr to cut it in half. So if you need 2, cutting a big one in half is a viable choice and might be cheaper.
LOVE my memory foam. If you can afford it get the good stuff-there are always sales. I got mine at Kohls with a coupon. My son has the eggshell stuff though and it makes it pretty comfortable-although he did not have a bad bed to begin with.
I got a memory foam type topper for my cheap mattress and it's great! I got mine at Target and don't remember exactly how much I paid for it, but I thought it was $50-$60.
We had the 2 in. one before we got a new mattress and it made all the difference. It was from Bed Bath and Beyond and I think the full was $100. When I was single I had the egg crate cheap foam kind and I loved that too. It'd be worth a shot!
You can also pick one up at Kmart or Target - I think we got one with 5 different "zones" for $15 and it makes a difference on the bed.
I love mine. I paid 80 or 90 dollars while it was on sale at bed, bath, and beyond. It was 150 new. Mine is full sized too. So your sons might be cheaper if it's a twin.
Is his mattress old or of inexpensive quality to start with? We have an IKEA latex mattress...but it was too flat/firm for me, so we added our Sam's Club brand (same as Walmart I am sure) Foam topper (we had it from our innerspring mattress as I had issues with that bed..and ours was only a few years old..ugh).
I love it and it makes a huge difference. Ours is the "generic" of a Memory Foam....

Memory foam scares me because of all the chemicals. But then again, everything is bad for us it seems. Hope things work our for ya!
I have used those over the years. They do tend to flatten out a bit over time. The ones now are prob better than the ones I used 10 years ago or so.
I did but there is the new foam smell that would not go away. It was a queen size and cost about $120.00. I actually took it back because they told me I could if it didnt work out! I think it had to be within 90 days which was plenty of time to see if it helped my back situation. I try,d covering the mattress but it made the whole room smell! But I dont think just a mattress topper would be any different from the floor. A couple sleeping bags might be better.
We just bought the 4in Walmart memory foamtopper for our bed, and yes it does help. I have arthritis in my back and it has really helped me to sleep sounder at night. One thing we found out is if you order it online, it's a little cheaper and they have free site to store. Hope this helps!
