Marriage Counselor Recommendation in Denver

Hi - Can anyone recommend a marriage counselor in the Denver area? We have never been to counseling but I feel it would help our marriage. Our son is 14 months old and having a baby has really changed our marriage. We looked up who our insurance (UHC) covers and got 100s of responses, so I'm not sure where to go. Since we only get 5 visits covered, I want to make a good choice of who to see. If someone has had a really good experience with marriage counselor, I'd love to hear about it! Thanks.

What can I do next?

We see Tom Board in Littleton. He is great at getting to the root of issues, which is very helpful.

Regarding Tom Board: We STRONGLY disagree with the person who recommended him. He claims to be a Christian counselor but that is questionable. He states that "emotions and feelings" are the only thing that matters. And says that facts, truth and Biblical truth are irrelevant. He would not allow us to discuss anything but emotions- and said that he does not care if anyone is lying- as long as they are expressing their emotions. That is the only thing that is relevant. Very strange.

We see Patrick Maloney and find him very helpful. It worked better for my husband to see a male therapist, and I was ok with either male or female. He has worked with us separately and together. He's in the southwest part of town.

We have gone to Tom Board for years on and off, and he has been extremely helpful for us. I'm sorry to hear about Rick's experience, but I would say the complete opposite. He always said that in the midst of the emotion, you always have to come back to biblical truth. Everything he has said to us is biblically sound, and we have had many friends and pastors also go to him -- many who have been to seminary, like myself -- and would agree that he was very helpful for marriage issues. One friend said they have never in their marriage been counseled in such an effective way getting to the root of the issues. Anyway, hope that is helpful! I am not sure on the insurance piece, as mine doesn't over it.

Hi B.,
When my husband and I were going through a really tough time a few years ago, we went to see Kathy Martone (www.dreamagik.com). She is a Jungian Psychologist, in Metro Denver, and is absolutely fabulous. We saw her separately and together and she really helped us work on gaining specific tools to better communicate, empathize and understand each other. I cannot recommend her enough. I ended up seeing her on my own on and off for about 4 years. She is just wonderful!
Best of Luck,
B.
