Anyone know if this movie is suitable for a 5 year old? My SO wants to take our 5 year old daughter and I am thinking it might be more of an adult/teen movie (it's rated PG13). That and she's more of a pixar/disney kind of girl =)

Thanks!

Nope, 5 is too young.

Also I heard Lone Ranger movie is not appropriate for young kids either. At one point they rip the heart out of live person and eat it..

I wouldn't take my 7 yo to see it but just thinking about Henry Cavill in that blue suit just brings a smile to my face!

Not appropriate for a 5 year old. There are quite a few kid movies that would be much more aimed toward her age group.

There IS a reason for movie ratings.

PG-13 means it's for kids 13 and up. Sorry, she's too young.

Look online for movie reviews aimed at helping parents decide what movies kids should or should not see. The Family Filmgoer summarizes things like levels of violence, sexual innuendo or activity, etc. Commonsensemedia is another site some parents on here use.

Please talk with your SO about the fact that Hollywood is making a lot of superhero movies these days but they are no longer aimed at young kids -- though the marketing is aimed at young kids! It's disgusting and sad to see all the toys, food products, etc. marketed so young kids can see (and want) them, when the movies themselves are most often PG-13 and at the very least far too loud and violent for the very kids to whom the goods are marketed.

Pixar just came out with Monsters University and as someone else noted, Despicable Me 2 is out today. Let your SO go see his movie and you take her to one of those.

No.

It's PG-13. I've found that usually means swearing, a little bit of sexual innuendo, and violence.

Take her to see Despicible Me 2. It opens today.

It's a great movie but I wouldn't take her. 1) It's too long and the story line is somewhat complex; 2) there is quite a bit of violence; 3) there is a scene early in the movie where a baby is sent away from his parents, forever, and then the parents are killed off. I think a 5-yr old would have a hard time processing the emotions on that one.

I'm not a stickler for the movie rating age ranges but I do think they are decent guidelines - then you have to decide for your particular child.

My husband saw it, and while he is usually the one trying to convince me to let our 5.5 year old son watch the Avengers, Spiderman, Thor, he thought it was way too violent for our kiddo. With the Avengers, I said no way to the theater but waited until it came out on DVD. I watched it first and then I knew when to fast-forward or cover up my son's eyes for certain scenes. Maybe you could make that offer to your SO?

I took my 7 year old and he loved it. But he also read the graphic novel, he's a huge superhero buff! If she's easily scared then I wouldn't take her.

Lots of explosions, long (too long) and very intense fight scenes, very little funny dialog. I regretted going and I'm usually a fan of super hero movies. Take her to Monster U or Despicable me and let the SO go see Man of Steel.

I think it depdns on how well she responds to or is impacted by violence.
There's a fair amount of it.
My 5 yr old would be fine with it. He would just ask a lot of questions.

But if she's sensitive and fighting/killing on TV bothers her, I'd keep her home.

I didn't like it all that much, and I don't really see it as suitable for a 5 year old. See something else.

Yes, Henry Cavill is hot, for sure, but a little wooden.

PG 13 is not suitable at all for a 5 year old. This movie is darker.

I have not yet seen it, plan to, buy I think this is a Superman more along the lines of the new Batman - if she has not seen the Dark Knight movies I do not suggest Man of Steel.

My 13 year old son has seen it. I asked him what he thought of it. He said it was AWESOME!! Then I asked what he would have thought of it if he was 5 years old? He said - SCARY.

So I think you might want to find another movie.

We brought our 5-yr old because he loves everything his 7-yr old brother loves, but it was too long for him. He sat through it but it wasn't really his speed. The violence wasn't any worse than most of the superhero shows he watches, albeit with real people, IMO. I would recommend not taking her.

I would not take my 5 year old to see it. It would really scare her, and it is way too intense for her to understand. I'm most likely not even going to let my 12 year old see it anytime soon. She has seen almost all the other super hero movies except for the Batman ones, but I think this one would scare her even.

I took my 8 year old twin boys to see it. A little bit of language, a lot of explosions plus a story line that I think was a little bit complicated to understand for little people. My boys enjoyed it but I don't think they actually "got" a lot of it. I'd say too young.

My 4 year old is dying to see it! So is my 9 & 12 year old. Heck my husband and I are as well. We're all huge Superman fans!
They all know it's make believe. A made up story about a made up superhero.
They've seen scads of the other super hero movies and movies like Transformers and Star Wars and love them all.
My 4 year old wants to be Wonder Women for Halloween.

We also love Disney/Pixar. We just love movies in general :)

The only reason we don't see them in the theater is the price. It costs us at least twice as much to go to the theater as it does to just buy it when it comes out. Also, with longer movies we sometimes have to pause them so someone can go to the bathroom or something which you can't do at the theater. The movie itself isn't why we don't go.

It is violent, but doesn't have any sexual content. It does show Clark's birth, and is probably over their head with many of the themes. I don't like to take my 6 year old to live-action movies with a lot of human on human violence. I'd let her watch Thor, for example, but not Iron Man (sexual content) or Captain America.
