Mammogram - Northville,MI

Hello,

I recently turned 40 and went for my second mammogram. The mammogram showed something new in my right breast. So, I had to get another mammogram and an ultrasound. The doctors said it was a lymph node that showed up. The lymph node is normal and they told me not to worry about it. Easier said, then done. Has anyone ever had this happen to them?

What can I do next?

I have been going to the doctors for about a year watching the same spot. They are not sure what it is. A friend recommended I go to a specialist. I did and this doctor said they don't think it is anything to worry about but recommended that my next mammogram be digital. I know our stories are different but what I am trying to say is push your doctors. If I wouldn't have asked I wouldn't have been seen by a specialist or wouldn't be having the digital mammogram.
Good luck.

I had my first mammogram in January when I turned 40, and was scared out of my mind when something "abnormal" showed up. I also went in for an ultrasound, and it turned out to be a lymph node from my armpit that had traveled down towards my breast. So I'm right there with you on this one, scary, but if the doctor says not to worry, try not to worry! Hope that helps :)

Lymph nodes is like the path that everything goes through, if you're sick, you will find the problem in the lymph nodes. They took out some of my mom's lymph nodes to see if her cancer had spread everywhere in her body. Unfortunately at the time, they weren't very good at this procedure and they cut a vein in her arm to get to the lymph nodes. She has liquid, fill her arm everyday and has to wear something to keep the swelling down. She did beat breast cancer without kemo. Well, lymph nodes are in our armpits that all things in our blood go through, kind of like livers.. and they are normal, nothing to worry about. Hope that helps.

J.,

I haven't had this happen to me personaly (I'm 29 and havn't had one yet) however, thi has happend to my Mom and to one of my Aunts. It's fairly common, but it must be addressed. They need to make SURE it's not something that needs treatment.

Everyone has 500-600 lymph nodes in their bodies, your lymphatic system is basically a filtration system. Lymph nodes act as filters, with an internal honeycomb of connective tissue filled with stuff that will collect and destroy bacteria and viruses. When the body is fighting an infection, lymphocytes (the stuff that collects and destroys) multiply rapidly and produce a characteristic swelling of the lymph nodes.

Once they swell, if they are in the breast they can look like a tumor (growth). Once they've finnished destroying whatever bad thing is in there they shrink right back down to their normal unnoticable size.

So really, in this case, you don't have anything to worry about. You can enjoy your relief!! Hope that helped.

(((hugs))) <--- cuz I know you need em!
