Is there a period of time where kids want mama all the time? Both my kids when are around daddy grammas or anyone else. They always want me- mama. Me to buckle them, to get them their juice, open things up, etc. Is it something that's underlying (they are 2 and 4) or is it normal? I will also at I have been separated from my husband for 8 months but we see the kids half and half- the same amount we have always just because of our work schedules .... Don't know if it's just the age and they'll outgrow it or if it's something else

What can I do next?

It's just something that happens in phases for a while. For years, I was the go-to person for Kiddo; now, he would rather have daddy all to himself if possible-- but when he gets upset, I'm the person he goes to. (Not that my husband isn't sympathetic, but more that he has a 'masculine' relationship with his father and doesn't want to lose face, if that makes sense.)

So, I wouldn't read too much into it. Kids just do this. I have seen this a lot in the years I was a nanny, too.

I think as long as we aren't dropping everything at the moment our kids want us, it's pretty harmless. Just a momentary preference.

Yes, it's the age. Just wait - all of a sudden they'll be saying "NO! I want to do it my OWN self!" And then you'll miss them wanting you to help. Add a couple more years and then they'll be embarrassed that you're visiting the school and pretend not to know you. Mine didn't do that (I was at the school a lot and they were used to it) but my friends' kids did...

My 4 year old is exactly like this right now. I remember when her brother was this way (He is 9 now). My mom is visiting right now and she is a little upset that her granddaughter won't let her do anything for her. She just wants mommy! It's a phase.
