Lymph Node Behind Ear

My 2 1/2 month old has a lymph node behind his ear that I first noticed when he was 5 weeks old. Last Sunday I took him to the Dr because of a rash and she put him on Amoxicillan. She said is should take care of both issues. However the lymph node is still there behind his ear. They now want us to have some blood work done and then might refer us to a Ped's specialist. My baby doesn't act sick at all. Has this happened to any of your babies?? Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

My grandson had a lump on the lower part of the back of his head. My daughter noticed it when he was a few weeks old. She put in a call to the pediatrition, and he called back and said, "Don't worry -- It's just a lymph node" It will go away in a few months, and it did. Evan is now a healthy 3 year old.

i remember my sister having one removed when we were youner thet did all the same stuff to my parents and she was fine a small little cut and a little snip and home the next day from what i can recall but i will keep you both in my prayer

My son had a bump on the top of his head as a baby. It freaked me out, but the dr repeatedly told me it was a lymphnoid. After many months of doing nothing about it, it went away. Just like the doctor said. Good luck!

My baby at 1 month had a swollen lymph node behind his ear. I was freaked out at first. The doctor was not concerned with it however. When you touched his bump, it could move slightly which is always a good sign. The doctor told me it was probably due to his baby acne. Even after my sons baby acne was gone, the bump was still there. It took a few months for it to go away, but it did go away.

All five of my kids have had that. The lymph nodes behind the ears on each side have been enlarged as infants and eventually reduced to a normal size. There is no reason to worry until they give you a reason to worry. It is good to have this checked out for your own peace of mind, but in my experience, it has been common and there have been no problems. Good luck!

both my kids have always had enlarged nodes... typically its nothing to worry about. the blood work is a good idea just to be safe however I am sure you little one will be fine.

Both of my sons had this as babies - it just means that they have been exposed to some sort of infection and have mounted some sort of response to it. My pediatrician advised that it can take months for it to "go down" and to just make sure it doesn't keep getting bigger. If it is somewhat moveable under the skin and remains the same or smaller as time goes on, sounds like nothing to worry about. Get the blood work done (they will probably look at his white cell count) for piece of mind, but this will turn out to be nothing, I am sure. L.
