I just bought apple jelly for my kids and they love it. They were getting tired of the peanut butter and grape/strawberry jelly. Next time we go to the store we are going to try a new kind :) This may not be so healthy but my kids love an occasional peanut butter and marshmellow fluff.

Can you pack a freezer pack in the lunch box? This way you can do tuna, egg or chicken salad? Or even a nice fruit salad? I would think that lunch meat would stay cold that way also.

Experiment with the meats. And think outside the bread...
My daughter will NOT eat any sandwich that is not PB & J. But she WILL eat rolled up deli meats... Ham "roll-ups" (just a slice of ham rolled up), smoked turkey "roll-ups", EverRoast Chicken "roll-ups".. she will not eat them if I put ANY condiments on them or put anything else in them (cheese, lettuce, etc)... just meat. So experiment a little.

There are always PB cups (the individual serving cups) and celery to dip in it. Or apple slices, or pretzels to dip in it. I also include individually wrapped cheese sticks too. (Great protein!) There are several varieties of these available... cheddar, mozzarella, Colby-Jack...

Or yogurt cups/tubes.
I've even made little "sandwiches" out of Nilla wafers and peanut butter. ...

Check www.allrecipes.com and www.kraftfoods.com they have some good ideas.

My daughter likes salads in her lunch. Both my kids like tuna salad. I used to make grilled cheese for my daughter too...she would just eat them cold.

Good luck.
Jen

Hello, I see alot of mentioning of PB! Where my kids go in IL they are trying to stop students from bring any product (including sandwiches) that has PB in it due to the children that have a allergic reaction to PB which has become alot in their school! My kids like to take the healthier lunchables! Where they have ham or turkey that they have to put on crackers! They are they littler ones that don't come with a drink! You can either give them something to take to drink or have them buy milk at their school, which is what my boys have done. Now my boys didn't do this everyday. It was only if the school didn't serve what they liked! Good luck Mommy!

If your PS allows peanut butter, try a whole wheat hot dog bun slathered inside with peanut (or sunflower butter) with a banana in it. My kids favorite!

As a preschool teacher for many years....here are some ideas of yummy foods that I've seen in lunches my class brings. Most schools now are "peanut-free" so substitute soy butter, sunflower butter, etc for peanut butter in sandwiches. The kids love wraps with cream cheese, lettuce, etc, cheese sticks, tuna salad, dinner left-overs from the night before, grilled cheese sandwiches, mac and cheese, any and all fruit....and that doesn't mean those sticky, sugary fruit snacks that kids convince their moms to buy(!) Vegetables.........again, any and all! I've had children bring the usual carrots, cherry tomatoes, green beans, lima beans, broccoli, caultiflower, even asparagus. NO.....potato chips aren't connsidered to be a vegetable in preschool!! Also, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.

The important thing is that he eats what you send. So send his favorite foods. Some ideas.... (some of these items need refrigeration or you can put an ice block in his lunch box)

cut up chunks of cheese
string cheese
yogurt
pretzels
crackers (gold fish are usually a favorite)
cut up fresh fruit (put in a container that he can easily open)
dried fruit
cereal (the kind he can eat as a snack food, like cherios)
granola bars
cold pizza

you could also invest in a good thermos, then you could pack
pizza bites
chicken nuggets
mac & cheese
raman noodles
