I dont really have any ideas but I wanted to tell you that I was in the Dollar store in Flower Mound yesterday and they have tons of Luau stuff.

Hi Y.:

My mom's group just had a luau and we hired hula dancers! They were wonderful. They had their own Hawaiian music and gave the kids lessons. I'm wondering if you could hire just one lady to keep the costs down...

Have fun!

I just got a catalog from Oriental Trading Company that had a whole page with nothing but Hula party stuff on it. They also have a website you can order off of. I would look there to see if they have anything you would need.

You could make a "Volcano Cake". Bake a cake using a Bundt Pan and put it on top of a regular round cake. Use icing to make it look like a volcano and put it on a large flat piece of cardboard (we decorated with plastic animals and plants). In the hole of the Bundt cake, insert a tall thin jar (a spice jar type). Fill the jar with liquid red jello (use the whole pack of jello and just enough water to fill the jar) mixed with a teaspoon or so of baking soda. Then when you serve the cake, pour in a bit of lemon juice and the volcano will "erupt"! Kids love it. (You might want to experiment first with the amounts of lemon juice and baking soda. It may be that the lemon juice is in with the jello and you add the baking soda before you serve, I can't remember!)

We are doing this next month for my daughters birthday. For entertainment we are sitting up a slip and slide outside for the kids (toys r us has a great one that blows up so the kids dont get hurt for $30), doing the limbo, a pinata, and the best is filling up two small, round inflatable pools with sand and giving each kid a bucket and shovel (their favor) and dividing them into two groups for a sandcastle contest. For food we are making the kids a fun tropical drink and serving it in plastic coconut cups(party city) that are their favors, hot dogs on the grill, fruit kebobs, and gold fish served out of a sand bucket with shovel. Decorations from Oriental trading, walmart, and party city.

I have done a "Hula Girl" party 2 yrs in a row for my daughter and found oritental trading to be the best pricing. We did k-bobs of cubed ham, cheese and fruit on the cute flower picks - huge hit with the kids. We also had limbo, luau tattoo station, leis and skirts for the girls, shell leis and hats for the boys. They had a blast!

Party City and Walmart both have a lot of stuff for a luau party, esp. Party City. Have a great time!

I went to the Dollar Tree one day 2 weeks ago to look for lil goodies for my son, but didn't want to break my check book & they had TONS of stuff that were Luau themed. I got them lei's, and the cutest lanterns, that were lit up by a light bulb, they had them in assorted colors and characters.

Not sure if this helps you, or if you were wanting more high end decorating ideas, but my son, neice and nephew loved everything that I got them. In fact my sister went and got some of the lanterns for her patio.

games-- limbo, chalk, bubbles (bubble blowing contest),dress up w/ grass skirts etc..., musical dots w/luau music (like musical chairs but use dots on the floor)
pigs in blanket, fruit kabobs w/ no sharp sticks, get fun sip cups put their names on them-- can double as a party favor. crafts
party favor- beach balls, sand buckets

Try Oriental Traiding.com you'll find all you need

I saw a bunch of luau stuff at Dollar Tree last week. It was the one in Rowlett. I'm not sure if they all carry the same stuff...
