Lower Back Pain & Treatment
I recently tried "osteo-manipulation" for my back pain & the dr. suggested I also do "reflexology" on my feet. Ive had a LOT of pain in my lower back, stiff feet & pain in knees. (i think its all from my pregnancy bed rest). My body is all messed up. I also have what feels like huge knots in my lower back, but i think they are Fatty Tissue or Tumor?? Anybody know anything about this type of stuff or treatment??

I watched a 60 Minutes type show on back pain once, (don't remember what), and people with chronic severe back pain went to a certain clinic. The upshot was that the best and usually only solution for these people's pain was intense exercises, focusing on building up the muscles to support their backs. The message of the show was that exercise was, in most cases, the ONLY thing that worked. People who were practically crippled by back pain were cured by their techniques.
The fact that your pain seems to be the result of all the bed-rest would seem to support that contention. I suggest something like Pilates, which focuses on core strength.

I would try yoga and/or pilates or both. After a year of yoga my back pain (20years long) is gone. The Yoga and pilates work to strengthen your core body first - which I would bet has suffered immensley from bed rest. Not only can it help your muscle tone and alignment, but it gives you an hour to yourself, to take care and focus yourself which probably hasn't really happened since you started bed rest. Be sure to try a few different teachers and feel comfortable speaking with them about why you are there. Namaste.

The pain in your lower back could be a lot of things. First, you must drink at least half of your body weight in water (not juice or soda) each day. Secondly, reflexology would be good because it will help release some of the tension you have in your body. And, I would go get a pregnancy massage. Make sure it is with some experienced in pregnancy massage because if not, they could actually throw you into labor! Also, you might want to get this oil, it's called 'white flower' and you have to get it at an Asian market. It will open up the blood vessels in the area you apply it to and increase the blood flow, helping to take the swelling and pain away.
Good luck, and hang in there.

Hi NinenineG,
They say 90% of pain comes from dehydration. The water we are drinking today is not absorbing in our cells. Alkaline water is the best to drink.
Another reason for pain is the muscles are to tight. I have found that magnetic therapy does wonders for muscles that are tight. I had a bad back for 5 years. Went to Chiropractors, acupuncture, physical therapy, holistic and massage therapy. Once I started sleeping and wearing magnets on my back I had no more problems.
If you want more info let me know and I will share.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

I highly suggest that you try treatment with the acuscope. It's VERY effective with myofascial issues like you describe. Google the electro acuscope for more information you can always contact me if you have any questions too. Most people have great results in 1-3 treatments
good luck!

Hi,
I have done both chiropractic and oste manipulation. The other thing that really helps is stretching, and lots of it.
You may have some muscle spasms in your lower back. I know when I have been in bed sick my back gets all knotted up and sore. When we had our second child I was on bed rest only for 3 months, the last of which was in the hospital for 4 weeks. I remember feeling a lot like you do now when I finally delivered and was allowed to move around at will.
It will get better, it just takes time.
