Lower Abdominal Pain

I have been having this dull throbbing pain for over 6 months now and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced it? It is on my right, front, lower abdomen area. I have had two ultrasounds done to rule out ovarian cysts, I have had a CT Scan of my abdomen and pelvis and am now scheduled for a colonoscopy on Friday. I have even tried the chiropractor thinking it may be a nerve issue. The pain is constant, not excruciating, but annoying. It is a dull throbbing pain that sometimes radiates in my back and down my right leg. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas or have maybe experienced this and have some advice. It is getting very frustrating to have all the test come back normal and the pain still continues. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I've had the dull throbbing pain as well...lower left abdomen. Mine has been around for almost 10 years!...off and on. I also had an ultrasound...thinking it was something worse. There was nothing there. You're right it's not excruciating but annoying. Good luck...and keep us posted if you do find something.

Hi, Sorry your going thru this! I too had the same kind of thing & Dr's couldn't find anything. It ended up being my appendix, but it was appendicitis exactly. Apparently it was getting irritated and I was taking some antibiotics for sinus infections and things like that. I would start to feel better, then it would come back. Took same tests and found nothing. Finally Dr.'s decided to do exploratory surgery when I swelled over night from a size 1 to a size 16 retaining fluid everywhere! Then when I went to Dr.'s office to see him, I passed out. (FYI - that gets you to the back very quickly!) Anyway, did explorartory surgery and found my appendix was gangraneous (sp??) Felt tip top after. Took 2 years to get a diagnosis! Now, recently, I started having pains in my back & hip and went to a chiropractor, but didn't get better. Got to where I couldn't even walk! No other symptoms. finally went to Dr. who gave me pain med, muscle relaxants. A little better, but not much. Sister asked if I had ever had a bladder infection that she hurt in her back when she did and gave me an over the counter pill that helps you with urinary track infections unitl you can get to Dr. Took pill and 20 minutes later, I was virtually pain free! Went straight to the Dr. and sure enough had a severe kidney infection and took 4 doses of different antibiotics before it was cleared up. Very weird. Not everybody's symptoms are the same, so good luck in figuring out your mystery. Hope this helps.

It could be a "trigger point" in your muscle or more than one muscle. I ordered a book online called The Trigger Point Therapy Manual and it really helped me deal with my muscle cramps and sore spots that caused radiating pain in different places all over my hip, butt, thigh, and leg. Google "Trigger Points" and see if that sounds like what you have. Keep on looking though--the other mom that said this is right; You are your best advocate! Don't take no for an answer. I see an awesome Pain Management doctor in The Woodlands -- Dr. Adnan Khan. He works miracles!! Good Luck =)

Have you read up on pelvic congestion??? I had this and it is very painful but easy enough to get rid of. When I read up on it I read that a lot of women have surgery to get rid of the pain but surgery is not necessary.

Have you had an MRI to check out your lower back? I'd still get the colonoscopy, but it's also possible that you may have a herniated disk, which is pressing against your siatic nerve. I have this problem, but it doesn't hurt my belly, but we have tons of nerves in the lower back. It wouldn't hurt to have it checked out. Good luck!

I too have had similar pains. I've had 2 c-sections and had a ruptured appendix with f/u surgery. Most of my tests too have come back normal over the years. I chronically have a lot of ovarian cysts. So the docs now just say that it's likely a combination of chronic IBS (which is such a pain to have) and scar tissue. If I have a 3rd baby (still unsure about that) and have another c-section, I may ask them to see if they can remove scar tissue at that time. I hope you get some relief. I know how unsettling not having a diagnosis can be. I even ended up in the ER in January because the pain was excruciating, but again the tests came back normal. I hope you get some relief and peace of mind.

I am not going to be much help, but that sounds exactly like the type of pains my husband has been having for about 2 years. He has gone to numerous specialists and had umpteen tests run, and they still have not figured out what it is. If you find out PLEASE let me know. Good luck with all your tests, I truly hope they figure out what is bothering you.

I got a hernia in the 7th month of my last pregnancy, due to really stretched ligament. It was a dull pain....never got super painful or sharp or burning. Hurt a little more when exercising or using the bathroom. Never excruiting, but was just always there---nagging.
Lower abdomen, right side, about 2 inches in from my hip bone. Got much worse during childbirth (obviously). Had it repaired when the baby was about 2 months old

I had the same symptoms and they did an IVP test; and found kidney stones, that eventually passed.

Although I've not experienced this type of issue, other than normal cramping when I ovulate. I know other women with similar issues. One ended up having polycystic ovarian syndrome, but her pain was not constant. I know 2 other women who had kidney stones and had pain until they passes.

I'm sure your doctor has done tests for these types of issue. I hope they find out what is wrong. If you feel you need to don't be afraid to get a second opinion or to see a specialist!

Is it possible it's sciatic pain? If you have any kind of a bulging disc in your back, it can press into the sciatic nerve and cause pain through the pelvis and down into the leg. A tight piriformis muscle can also constrict the sciatic nerve in the pelvis causing pain down the leg.

I have the same type of pain, but on my left side. I am going in for an ultrasound to rule out cysts. Sounds like I may be going down the path you have already traveled. I am curious - did you ever have a c-section? I have, and I am beginning to think it is scar tissue causing the pain. Please let me know, thanks and best of luck!

I have that type pain, lower right side, very close to the pelvic area. The pain comes and goes, and it is too low for me to believe it has anything to do with my ovaries. I also have a problem with my right hip, leg, foot down to the toes bothering me, usually around the same time I feel the adombinal pain.

When I started having trouble flexing my foot, I finally went to have it checked. The MRI came back showing I have a large cyst on the right side of my S1 disk. I believe that I will sometimes do something that irritates this cyst and it will cause pressure on my sciatic nerve. This is what is causing the problems with my right-side. Pinched nerves can make us feel pain in many areas.

I haven't done anything about having this cyst removed; I just live with it. My neurologist didn't recommend any treatment, one way or the other. If I ever get to the point where I can't flex my foot enough to drive a car, I suppose I'll have the motivation then to pursue doing something.

I had the same type of dull pain that started about 9 years ago. It took a few years to get the correct diagnosis, it is ulcerative colitis. Your colonoscopy will tell you if that is what it is. UC is inflammation in the colon and the doctor told me that they don't know what causes it and they don't have a cure, they can only "treat" the symptoms. I asked how long would I be on meds and he said, "forever". Well I didn't like that answer, so I went in search for something natural and nutrional. After trying many things (this took over a year), I finally found a product that worked. The main ingredient of this product has natural anti-inflammatory properties, so I'm guessing that is why I got good results. I liked it so much, I became a distributor. Do you have a problem with constipation or bowel movements? I frequently experience the same type of pain. I'm very irregular and am constantly bloated. Sometimes I can go days without a bowel movement. I've found that taken mineral oil and drinking lots of water helps. Have you been checked for IBS?

My best friend had lower right abdominal pain for almost a year. She went to multiple doctors and sometimes even the emergency room when it got more severe at times. They ruled out appendix, ovaries, and colon. It was so frustrating. Eventually, she found a surgeon who agreed that it was appendix, it just wasn't presenting in the normal, acute way. She got her appendix out and has been fine ever since.

Of course, this might not be the case with you, but just wanted to encourage you to keep on trying and advocating for yourself until you get the help you need.
