Its totaly normal. I lost a ton of hair with my son. Thats one thing the part that is really hard to deal with is when it all starts to grow back and you have all of these unruly baby hairs everywhere that you can't do anything about, but wait for them to grow out.

It is normal. While you are pregnant your hormones cut down on the hair that is shed daily, which is why people say their hair was so much better and thick when they were pregnant. Now the hormones are changing and you are losing the "old hair" that your body held onto. I think it took about 3-4 months after birth for my hair to stop coming out so much and get back to pre-pregnancy levels and fall out rate.
When I say I was shedding, I have a little wad in the shower now, but back then, Lord It would completely clog the drain with a wad the size of your palm. It was horrible. It would come out in handfuls, I was sure I would be bald. I never was. The first child this really alarmed me, but my doctor told me it was normal. And it happened to me with each child, Total 3 times. So by then I knew what to expect. Take your pre-natals and make sure you eat well. You can talk to your doctor on your next visit, but I wouldn't schedule a special appointment. The pre-natals won't stop it, but will make sure your body can replace and have all the nutrients needed.
Good luck,
L.

Normal, but AWFUL! I cut my hair short-- if you don't, then yes, when it starts to grow back, it looks even worse. I remember my bathroom looking like I had slaughtered a very furry animal! LOL. Ah, the joys of motherhood!

I too had very thick hair during pregnancy. When the hormones started to calm down, I lost some of it. This is very normal and will subside. The time will vary from person to person, but mine only lasted about 6 months.

I am experiencing the same thing right now. doctors and hair stylist ssay it is normal and that it will stop shedding in a few months. I am getting hair off the floor everytime I comb my hair!

Totally normal. But if it doesn't stop or slow down (not sure how long to tell you... months maybe), have you doc check your thyroid levels.

Oh, I hated that! Mine fell out in two very noticable places around my hairline. I agree with the woman who said the worst part is when it grows back. I cut bangs to match the clumps now that they are finally at a length to do that. Hope that makes sense. My daughter is 17 months old now and it is finally blending in with the rest of the other hair. I noticed that my hair began returning after I stopped nursing - around 8 months. Good luck!

Hi A.,
It is also normal for end of pregnancy as the others have stated, but if you had an epiduralor any other anesthetic. it adds to the hair loss. Ususally lasts for 6 weeks.
But I agreewith the other lady too, if it doesn't stop after that, go back to your Dr and get some lab tests done!
Good Luck,
K.
