Losing Hair!! - Plano,TX
Ack! My hair is falling out! I've got two small but obvious (to me and to others when I point it out) spots on my head that are really thinning. I've recently had a baby and I knew that hair loss was common during pregnancy, but goodness gracious, I don't wanna be bald! Besides the thing spots, I have more hair than usual coming out all over my head .
Has anyone out there had experience with this? Will it stop? Will my hair come back? AAAGH!!!

Hi M., when my daughter was born 8 months ago, I too started losing hair like crazy (more so 3 months after she was born)!!! Soo upsetting, I know! My hair dresser suggested I use Nioxin (which is for thinning hair) and I know have all these baby hairs...so it's coming back. Good luck!

M., the same thing happended to me. I was still nursing and taking my prenat's but it continued. About 4 months after I had my son, I had two small bald spots right at my temples. Dr said it was all hormonal. Mine continued for a total of 9 months, then I noticed it slowing down. After I stopped nursing my stylist started used Nioxin products for thinning hair for women. It did help with the shedding. As far as the bald spots they started filling in too. But I must say, even today, my son is 1 1/2 and that area is thinner than the rest of head. You aren't alone. Hang in there. And be sure to check with your dr. just to make sure it isn't anything else.

Mine did that too for about 8 months after my son was born. Seemed like all my hair was coming out. I would suggest (as did my OB) to take your prenatals / vitamins and that should help. My hair stylist said it was the hormonest that got me losing my hair like that. So.. hopefully this helps! :)
HUGS; it'll come back and congrats on your new baby.

M.,
Sorry to hear about the hair loss. Know though that it happens to many moms as others have said. I too would suggest continuing your prenatal vitamins. If the problem continues you may want to talk to your doctor about checking your thyroid. Sometimes an under active thyroid can cause the problem as it was for a friend of mine. If that is the problem your doctor can give you medication that usually reverses the hair loss. Best of Luck, Pam

Hi M.,
Don't fret, it will come back. I had the exact same thing happen to me and in fact my Christmas pictures you could see it and I had to have my husband digitally (good job) fix it in several places! Girl, and I have thick, thick hair and tons of it and use to shed all over the place, so you can imagine my surprise to see this happening to me. I thought I was gonna die from the condition!
One thing, be sure and take your vitamins and just remember that it will come back. Mine did, but it did take some time for it all to come back!!
Good Luck. Give it about 2 to 3 months and it should be ok.

We share the name and the hair loss. I went through the same thing. Every time I was washing my hair I would run my fingers through and pull out 15 strands of hair. You do that enough times and you start going bald. I also breastfed for a year. After I stopped, my hair stopped falling out. I may have lost too much calcium. Talk to your dr. You may need to take some calcium tablets. They also say that you can loose a tooth. I threw up so much at the beginning of pregnacy. I hated the taste of tooth paste. It would make me gag so I would just rinse my mouth with water. I ended up with 2 decay spots on the inside of my front tooth. Be sure to get your teeth checked. My sister-in-law didn't have the money to go to the dentist, (she didn't have insurance) she ended up loosing one of her molars because she didn't get a filling when it first became a problem. She's only 30 yrs old. That's scary!!!

Hi M.
I hear this all the time from my clients. I am a midwife. The responder who mentioned that her beautician said it was hormones is RIGHT.... Beauticians see it all the time too! It's always good to take your vitamins but it is IRRELEVANT. It will pass. In the meantime, know that you are in the company of many other sufferers, and that before your baby can say "mama" it will be back.

M.,
I would recommend continuing to take prenatal vitamins. Sometimes it takes time for your body's vitamin stores to return to normal after having a baby and and you especially need extra vitamins if you are nursing. If you don't have any refills on your prescribed pre-natals, you can get a drug store brand anywhere. My daughter is 3 and I still take them. When I stop taking them, my hair starts to fall out again. Best Wishes and take lots of Bubble Baths to relax!

My husband was loosing his hair at a pretty fast rate. He now has a full head of hair once again. He has been using Nutriol. It is for hair growth and will prevent hair loss. It is made by a company out of Utah called NuSkin. You can contact me and I will tell you more about it and how to get it. You cannot buy it over the counter and you do not need a prescription to get it. It is fabulous!
