Looking Younger

Hi I have a question about looking younger. I read that using the right exfoliater is important. I am looking for a cream that will reduce redness and smooth the lines. I am a pale person but for some reason my face has in the last 5 years has gotten redder and redder. When I look at myself I feel so old. I have friends that look so good for their age and they are the same age as I am. I know I need to lose weight which would help some. If anyone knows of a cream that doesn't cost an arm and a leg that reduces redness and smooths some lines please let me know. TIA
S.

You could have rosacea or it could be hormonal. http://www.rosacea.org/index.php

If you are able to see a dermatologist, I would definately do so. Most of the time they are able to give you samples to try before filling a prescription. They can also recommend over the counter creams and soaps.

S.,

Have you considered going to your dermatologist to see if the redness is anything? My girl friend found out at age 33 she has rosecea, and knowing what the cause is REALLY helped her pick the right products.

I've started using Joey NY "Gentle Soothing" facewash, and their collegen boosting cream. I'm very happy with how soft and clear my face looks. They have a whole line of Gentle soothing - which reduces redness and adds moisture. I'm sure you can find others like that.

I found this site http://www.totalbeauty.com/ when I was looking for a product for undereye circles. They had 21 women use two different products (all told there were 7-8 different products they compared) on either eye and take before and afters. The results were that none of them looked significantly different. Kind of a bummer.. but great to keep you from wasting money. It's strictly a review site, they don't push any products.

It sounds like you might have rosacea. I would go get it checked out by a dermatologist to make sure you don't have something that needs attention before trying a bunch of products. If you are diagnosed with rosacea I know of a product that will help. My dad has it really bad, bad reddness and he uses this product and has now great looking skin. Once you take care of the reddness I know of another product that will get rid of your wrinkles and fine lines...fairly quickly too! These products do not cost an arm and a leg and are all natural at that. I would get your skin checked out first though. BUT if a doc wants you to use any type of steroid or any strong chemical I would say nope and try a natural route first. Feel free to email me if you want more info or samples :) That way you can try it first before purchasing something that may not work for you.

Hi S.,

I would suggest consulting a skin care specialist such as a dermatologist. I am 31 yrs old have been going to a plastic surgeon who also specializes in dermatology for about a year and have noticed a vast improvement in my skin. I have never had plastic surgery or botox or anything of that nature, but I am never believed when I tell people my age. Since I started so soon on a good skin care regimen, I will most likely get to postpone and botox (if I ever decide to even do it) much later than most.

The derm will likely do a free initial consult and will look at your skin, check for sun damage and evaluate it very closely. They will likely be able to tell you what is causing that redness and how to treat it.

Once they recommended products for me, I bought some there and then went online (ebay, amazon, etc) to purchase the others because I found them to be much cheaper. I currently use vivite products and they are amazing. I use the night cream and usually the cost is about $85 for about a 6-9 month supply (which is really cheap if you add it up), but I found it online for half the cost. But, I wouldn't suggesting starting a skin care regimen without seeing a derm first. I promise you will not regret it!

Also, remember that part of what our skin looks like has to do a lot with what we put IN our bodies. I would highly recommend avocado and walnuts and almonds as an addition to your diet. Avocado is amazing and has properties that will likely help your redness. Google it and you may find some amazing things. I do not like avocado alone, so I mix it in a smoothie with strawberries, baby spinach and OJ. It is delicious!

- Best wishes!

Any dermatologists will tell you...
1. cleanse am & pm
2. Exfoliate...yes, this is a key factor most skip
3. Tone/freshener... this balances your ph out in your skin which is anti aging benefit over time
4. Moisturize (if oily it is key to have the right formula)
5. protect (sunscreen, best on your face if in a repair formula)

I share this with you because as I have gotten older I have learned to do this and now I look younger. I cover these steps using my Mary Kay formula because it is all guaranteed and it costs less than the dept. stores. It lasts forever!
I became a consultant and keep the products on hand because of it!

i'm a pale skinned redhead and have roseacea that makes my skin red. no other problems with it and no "triggers" like some people have (like the "ted kennedy drinking roseacea"). a simple prescribed lotion and my redness disappears after about a week. go to a dermatologist. good luck!

The #1 item is Retin A, do your research, it comes in various strengths and can cause redness and flaky skin if overdone, start low and slow, then increase.

Also useful:
- gentle facial cleanser
- a good Moisturizer (change for seasons, if neccesary)
- Sunscreen (very important, dont forget the back of your hands)
- Exfoliator (if grainular, make sure the grains in it are round, not uneven; there are some creams available).

Optional:
- Bleaching cream (brightens the skin)

All the above products are available OTC in a dermatologist office, usually through their skin care clinic - the consultations are typically free by the beauty technicians - then they sell you the products; these products are usually more productive that the department stores. Start by getting the brochures, then checking the products on the web site Heather A mentions.

I am a Shaklee Independent Distributor and I have a fabulous skincare system and you will see results. It visibly reduces fine lines and wrinkles. I thought I looked pretty good already but after I started this skincare system I got some amazing compliments! I was asked what I was doing different because I looked younger. My dental hygenist asked me what I use because my skin was luminous. She was 30 years younger than me!

I'm not sure what to tell you about skin care for redness (other than I use Mary Kay and love it - but then I have darker skin and don't deal with constant redness). But anyway, have you ever tried mineral foundation? I currently use Mary Kay's but I've used several brands and I have found they are ALL great at covering redness. I found out one day just how good when I came in from mowing red-faced. By the time I showered and got dressed my face was still super-red, but as I started putting on the mineral foundation (it's a powder) the redness started to disappear. It makes red blemishes disappear also. Anyway, not exactly the answer you were looking for but hope it helps a little!
