Looking to Upgrade Diaper Bag to Accommodate Newborn and Three Year Old
Hi ladies! I am due with my second child in about four weeks and I feel like I've outgrown my old diaper bags. I've been using any shoulder bag to carry entertainment items for my three-year-old daughter, and while she is potty trained, I still carry a change of undies, wipes and change of clothes for those unforeseen disasters. That said, I think my old diaper bags won't be able to accommodate all the newborn necessities plus a toddler bag o' tricks. Does anyone have any good diaper bag recommendations?

So What Happened?™
Thanks for all your advice! I'd never even thought about having my three-year-old carry her own little bag! Thanks for all the other suggestions - I did check many of them out at Buy Buy Baby. I think I'll see how it goes and if it seems like I do need the upgrade after all, I'll know which brands to pick!

I just got a Kalencom to accomodate stuff for my new twins and my 5 year old. I have seen them at Pea in the Pod and such places for $70 and up, but I found a huge selection of them at the Tuesday Morning Store for around $20!!

We were in the same situation a year ago. After much research comparing sizes and whatnot, we ended up buying the Diaper Dude bag. We love it! It's very roomy (looks deceivingly smaller than it actually is) and it's got stroller hooks, which are a necessity for us, since we are out in the stroller all the time. I still use my really large kate spade bag (which doesn't work on the stroller) for long trips out of town. But we got rid of our smaller skiphop bag because it just wasn't large enough for both the 3 year old and the baby...

I love the Oakley from Oney Bags! You can design one in your own choice of fabrics. And I love that you can extend the adjustable strap to wear it across your chest when you have stuff to carry or a hand to hold. Lots of pockets too! It doesn't scream diaper bag too....I have used mine as a carry on for travel also. They have a studio in Lisle you can visit to design or do it online.... www.oneybags.com
Good luck!

My family and I have always bought the backpack diaper bag from Lands End. They are wonderful!! They have plenty of room and hold everything. It comes with a changing pad and has more than enough room for 2 kids. I spent around $45 but I also have our last name stiched on it. Only so we don't get confused at the family parties, there are always like 15 diaper bags. LOL!! I hope this helps. Best of luck to you on your search.

the 3 year old would think she were a big girl if she was able to carry her own bag like mom.when the 2nd one came along, the first learned to carry a "panty" bag. She never "packed" any more than she was able to carry for herself. By the time # 3 came along both the first and 2nd were "big" girls and could take care of business themselves. I would take her shopping and let her get some kind of little bag or a small packback that she can be responsible for. Good luck...it really is much easier than you think. I survived......3 girls in 5 years!!!

Hi J.
Congrats! I read your post and highly recommend the Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy Backpack. It is plenty big for everything you would need for a newborn. There are velcro pockets for little things you would not want lost. There are 2 bottle/sippy cup holders on the outside and another 2 inside. There is a velcro changing pad that folds right out so you can change while on the go. It also comes with stroller clips so you can easily clip it onto your stroller's handle. Best of all - they come in the most beautiful prints seen and look like a big beautiful handbag for mommy.
I have 2 and a touring tote by Petunia Pickle Bottom and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. No diaper bag has come close.
Good luck!

If you have the money to spend I would recommend either the Fleurville Mothership or the Ju Ju Be-Be Right Back. These are both wonderful and have plenty of space. They cost a bit but hey, you use it everyday!
