Looking to Move Within Chicago to a Child Friendly Community

We have outgrown our East Village home and are looking to move within Chicago. Any ideas for child friendly communities. We would like to be walking distance to some city services (for example, library). We are 40 year old plus parents with a three year old.

What can I do next?

Hi-
Lincoln Square is a wonderful area as is Lakeview. I have 2 young children and we are really enjoying Lincoln Square - we're 5000 N and 3000 W.

East Lakeview is also great - I'd lived there my whole life until this move! If you have more specific questions, please feel free to call me at ###-###-####. Good luck-
E.

I agree with some of the other referrals to you that Edison Park is nice. I think the train is close to there too. We live in the South Loop which is up & coming. We can walk to the lake, museums, Bears games, grocery, Michigan Ave. shopping. Most of our neighbors are upper 30's, early 40's and mid 50's. Many have young children or are expecting or want to have kids soon. All are professionals -doctors, lawyers, judge, pro-sports player, the Mayor of Chicago all live in the neighborhood.

My husband is a Chicago Police Officer so we have to live in Chicago. The Mount Greenwood area is a very nice, safe, suburban-like area. We're moving to 114th and Pulaski. I went to Mother McAuley in that area and it is very nice. Close to schools, stores, banks, parks (not sure where library is though), and it is heavily populated with Chicago police officers and fire fighters.

The Oak Park, Forest Park, Berwyn area is really great and still very accessible by public transporation on the green and blue line. Great shopping, libraries, parks...

Hi J.,
I live in the Dunning area which is located near Harlem & Addison and I LOVE my neighborhood. The houses are not that big (lots 20X100) but it is such a great community to raise a child. There are a lot of stay at home moms (not me) and they all take care of each other. I've thought of moving to a bigger house in the burbs but I just cant because this is they type of neighborhood you want your child to be raised in. Homes range in price from 289-589. The public school is suppose to be great and all my friends on the block are on the PTA. Please let me know if you need any additional information.

We live in very, very kid friendly Roscoe Village. There are so many kids in this area and a lot of activities for them. We have been here 6 1/2 years and love it.

A couple of really child friendly communities are on the far Northwest side, Norwood Park and Edison Park. Both neighborhoods have a ton of activities for kids at the park districts and are close to Metra as well. There are also excellent neighborhood schools, hope this helps.
