Hello Mamas,

My husband graduates from SJSU next week (HALLELUJAH!) and I am looking for some ideas on places to eat afterwards for dinner. I am hoping to find something that is child friendly and not too expensive. Mostly looking in the downtown area, so that it's easy traveling from the university, however I am still open to other options as well. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We ended up going to Tied House and it was a really nice dinner. It was quiet, which I was worried about because I had heard that Thursday nites are something like .99 cent beers, but that was later in the evening. Thank you all for your advice, all of you are wonderful. God bless.

Hey N.,

Try the Melting Pot. It's right down town, and it's great for kids. Every one gets to dip their own food (breads, meat, veggies) in delicious cheese fondue, and they have chocolate desert fondue with fruit and pound cake! It's family friendly, it cost friendly, and it's fun!

A little about me:

I'm a happily married stay at home mama to 4 beautiful boys ages 9,6 and twins that are 4. I love to cook, sing, hike, camp, and spend time with family and friends!

I recommend Spaghetti Factory and Sonoma Chicken at downtown SJ. It's child friendly. The price is reasonable. There is Peggy Sue if you're into burgers. Tied House is good too. I know how you feel. My hubby won't graduate until next spring. Have a great dinner celebration with your family!

Hi N.,
Congrats to your husband and your family! I would try Sonoma Chicken Coup. They have a diverse menu with good food and prices. It is definitely family friendly. My son loves their pizza and mac-n-cheese. The kids portions are huge so I would have your girls share a dish!

Spaghetti Factory - call to see if they have reservations or it could be a long wait.

Sonoma Chicken Coop, downtown or if you feel like driving a little, Aqui on Lincoln Ave in Willow Glen is the same style as Sonoma Chicken Coop with with Ca. Mex Cusine. Really Child Friendly and a nice restaurant and totally inexpensive. Congrats to your husband and your family!!

Hi N.

I think Sweet Tomatoes is a great place for a good quality, inexpensive meal with kids. There is one in Santa Clara just off Lawrence Expressway. It's buffet style with an extensive salad bar and other food that kids usually love - pizza, baked potatoes, rice, stir fried vegetables, soups, ice cream, fruit and other desserts.

I was thinking of a buffet style restaurant too. I know the little ones can be picky eaters and a buffet style restaurant will fit everyone needs.

Congratulations! Have you tried Bucca di Beppo at Oakridge Mall? They serve family style and can accomodate a large party.

My family loves PF Changs. They are so yummy, the food comes family style, so you could order two things, rice comes with for free, and they just bring extra plates. It's not too expensive, we eat the mongolian beef, which is one of the more expensive items, and I believe it is 14 dollars. We can fill up on that and rice, and it's not very expensive ;-) They have high chairs and are nice and friendly when you rbing kids, but it still looks very nice inside. (They also have toys for kids and the special plastic cup and straw:-)

Congrats! My husband just graduated in January so I understand :-) Good Luck!
