Looking to Buy His First Blanket!

I need a crib blanket for my 19 month old son. He has never slept with one, but with winter coming, I would really like to have one in there. He has a stuffed puppy he sleeps with and a little blanket that is just a cozy. I am finding lots of them online that look great (fleece, quilts, comforters etc..), but wanted to see what everyone else found to be good quality. He is a big boy, so it can't just be a baby size blanket, but needs to be able to fit nicely in the crib. He has not showed any interests in blankets until now, so hopefully I can find something he likes! All I have right now are the little baby/receiving blankets. Let me know what you have found and like!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! I got a really great throw in the toddler bedding section at Target. He loves it and it will really keep him warm. Thanks for all the ideas!

For my daughter's I went to walmart and got some cheap white cotton (soft) material, and some soft pink satin for the other side and made hers. It is very easy and very special. We also found some pretty edging for it to top the whole thing off. I know its not what you were looking for but i thought it might spark an interest.

I was given a blanket at my baby shower from Babies R Us its made by Koala Baby. At first I thought it was so big, but i kept it. Later I gave it to him around 16months and he loved it- it has a satin trip and very soft. Keep in mind wherever you do get the balnket make sure you can easliy purchase another. A blanket to a child is very special and is taken everywhere. I later went back and got another; one for home and one for travel (familys house & daycare). Hope this helps.

I have 2 boys, ages 2 and 4. Since my oldest was a year old I've used the same blankets. They are made by Circo and sell at Target for $4.99. Yep, that's it. They are fleece, lightweight yet warm, are easily washable, are VERY soft, and most important, they are durable through the lives of little boys. They use(d) them in the crib, in the bed, carrying them around the house, at preschool, in the car, and on trips in the pack-and-play. They are in the baby section (as opposed to the regular bedding section in the store) and are usually found on an endcap. We own 6 of them that we've had between 3 months (just bought another in August!) and 3 years. I've owned a hundred baby blankets between the two of them and they are the best. And for $5, who can beat that? Geez, I'm a commercial!

Hey M., I don't know if he is active during sleep but I found those fleece sleepers, ones with legs and zip up to be great in the winter when mine were young. If you can sew or know someone who does they have these really nice kits that you can make his blanket out of or just buy a piece of material (blanket kind) and bind it.
Hope you find what you want.

my son was still in his crib as well at that age and we got some of the toddler bed sets. it comes with sheets, pillowcase and a nice comforter. the comforter is large enough to be able to tuck under the mattress. you can find them everywhere in all the popular themes. he got thomas the train. wal-mart, target, k-mart all sell them.

I bought these blankets in the baby section that were sort of like sleepers. They strapped on and were closed at the bottom like a layette, to make sure they couldn't get tangled in it. My daughter is 23 months and still sleeps with thick sleepers on.

Walmart has the wrapped blankets, and I don't remember them being very expensive, less than $10 a piece.
