Looking to Buy a New Vacuum Cleaner
Hello Everyone,
I'm in the market for a new vacuum cleaner. I've been without one for a while and I'm sick and tired of borrowing my neighbors or my mothers! I'd like a good one - light weight (have three floors) and easy to use. We all have allergies also..but do not have any pets. Let me know what you recommend, appx. cost and where to buy it.
Thanks!
M. M.
So What Happened?™
I ended up purchasing a Simplicity brand vacuum from United Vacuums in Waterford. It works awesome, is hypoallergenic and covered by warranty for three years. Thanks everyone for your ideas.

This is a little embarassing but I have my mothers Kirby. I think it is about 20 years old. I absolutely love it. The only downfall is that it is heavy. But the heavy body is like a tank - it'll never die!
I've been considering a Dyson too. Mainly because I want something a little lighter. It's interesting to see the responses you received.

I also have the Dyson and swear by it. I've owned it for over 2 years and it still works like new. I have the purple pet one (I have a golden retriever) but they have a whole line of them. I got mine from Bed, Bath & Beyond with a 20% off coupon from Linens & Things. L&T stated on the coupon that I couldn't use the coupon for Dyson, but BB&B honored it. (You can use L&T coupons at BB&B and vice versa as long as they're not expired.) I believe that most of the Dysons are $400-$500.

my boyfriend went to walmart and bought a vaccum it was 80 dollar and has one of those allergy filtration systems make sure you do not get one with a bag it has to be one of those buckets you can empty, mine also has all of this extremely cool attatchments that make everything so much easier getting the corners of the carpet and under the coffee table and so on, i dont believe you have to spend hundreds of dollars for a good vaccum bc the one i bought works better then any ive ever had so good luck to you

Well M., everyone seems to like the more expensive vacums out there, I have a dirt devil bagless upright, I have only had 2 vacums in the 10 years i have been in my house and they both are dirt devils and both still run, I have 2 cats in my house and 3 kids so my floors get plenty dirty, but my first vacuum was a bag vacuum and my new one is a bagless and I do prefer the bagless to anything else, they usually have hepa filters which keep the dust to a minimum, my vacuum ran $129 new so if it last over 5 years i figure its more than worth it as new and better ones come out anyways. I will say thought that if you are stuck on getting a dyson, my sister got hers on overstock.com for under $300
hope this helps!!

M.~to tell you the truth-I was at the Hoover outlet at Evergreen and 12mile in Southfield getting my vacuum fixed. Hoover has come out with a new vacuum that is great. I would go to that outlet to get one. The guys there are great and they treated me with the most respect. Good luck!

Hi M.,
I have a Dyson that I love. I have had about 4 vaccums in my short life and this is the best one. I have three cats though and it is great for cat hair. It is a little more expensive I believe but for me it was worth the price. Although you don't have any animals so I don't know if would be worth it for you.

Hi M.,
My advice to you is to first look into an Oreck or Dyson even though they are pricey. Check out Oreck's website. I bought the Hoover Tempo vac last June and threw it out in 4 mos because it was spitting back dust. My house is 75% bare floors so I figured I could spend about $60 on a new vacuum cleaner instead of investing in an expensive one. If you are looking for a good brand that's not expensive, I recommend looking at Dirt Devil. I've had 3 Dirt Devils and never had any problems. I have a $35 Dirt Devil lightweight right now that cleans awesome. Most vacuums today are bagless, so you save on bags.
Good luck,
MC
