I am moving from Tampa, and I am currently 20 weeks pregnant. My husband's job is relocated us, and I need to get established with a new OB. I was hoping some of you guys could refer me to someone you have used (and loved). This is my second child, and the second time I have moved in the middle of a pregnancy. I lucked out the last time, and am hoping to have the same luck again!!! Also, the best hospital to deliver in in the Fairfield County area would also be wonderful information!
Thanks

So What Happened?

I wanted to thank everyone for all their suggestions. I went with Dr. Garofalo in Norwalk hospital. I was treated very well both in the office and in the hospital. My one gripe, and it's a REALLY big one, is that NO ONE informed us at any point (pre-delivery or post-delivery) that their neonatologists are not IN-NETWORK. We had Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and although the hospital was in-network, and Dr. Garofalo was in-network the pediatricians are NOT. We were not told this at any point, and only after the delivery, once the bills started ROLLING in, did we discover this issues. My son is now almost seven months old, and I am JUST NOW seeing the light at the end of the tunnel as far as the bills are concerned. I really wished I had gone with Dr. Ronika Choudhury and delivered at Bridgeport Hospital. Everyone I know here delivered there, and had good things to say about it. Dr. Choudhury has won additional awards since I have moved here, and I realized I probably should have gone that route.

It's no conincidence that we are moving to Virginia in two weeks. We found Connecituct to be a really hard place to live! The winter (coming from Tampa) was brutal, it's difficult to aclimate and make friends, and it's insanely expensive here. I thank you all again....and if you can watch out for Norwalk Hospital!!!

I moved here from California and was in the same boat as you. Dr. Garofalo in Norwalk was recomended to me. I was a high risk pregnancy. He was wonderful. The last three months I went in every week. The girls are wonderful too.

Hi K.! I am a nurse at Bridgeport Hospital on the post partum floor and well baby nursery. It is a great hospital to have a baby at! We have a level one NBICU should you need it. that's a good thing because although you hope for a healthy baby, shoudl anything go wrong the NBICU is right there in teh same hospital. As for OB's, I go to Women's Health Care of Trumbull (namely Dr. Goldstone-Orly). It is a group of 6 female doctors and 2 midwives. If you prefer a single doctor, I would highly recommend Dr. Ronika Choudhury. She is super nice and all her patients just love her!! If I wasn't so attached to my doctor, I would probably go to her too!!!
good luck!

I agree with Melissa R. I use Avery Center for many years - the whole staff is great. They have offices in Westport, Norwalk and Fairfield. Dr. Ofer delivered my son and Dr. Sauter delivered my daughter. Both were professional -- I knew I was in good hands!

Welcome to CT!!

I love my OB Practice. They are the Avery Center and they have 3 locations. One in Westport, Norwalk, and Fairfield. They deliver out of Norwalk Hospital. My current OB is Dr. Ofer, he was great through out my first pregnancy last year and reassured me about anything I was worried about. The pregnancy and delivery were great! There are 5 doctors in the practice and all of them were really helpful.

Welcome to Ct, K.,
Where in Fairfield county are you? Dr. Joel Evans in Stamford at the Center for Women's Health is awesome, as is Dr.Cuteri in Trumbull--I don't know much about the Danbury area.

Good luck!

As a first time mom I really appreciated my OB. I use OBGYN of Fairfield County - they are a larger practice with offices in Fairfield and Stratford. I was always able to get in and see a OB no matter what, and they are all very nice. My regular OB is Dr. Tandon - she is terrific! They only deliver at Bridgeport Hospital, which I didn't have any problems with either. Good luck on your search and move up to CT!

I'm not sure where you are, but I had a great experience with Physicians for Women in Danbury and Danbury Hospital. In particular I like Dr. DeVita and Dr. Tamura. Good luck and congratulations!

Hello K.,
I LOVE my OB and her staff. She is located in Stamford ,CT (with another office in Norwalk Hospital..where she does the deliveries...FYI..I loved the hospital too) and is in a practice by herself...so you really have a relationship with the person delivering your baby. Not a bunch of docters from a larger practice. Her name is Elizabeth Aronow and she is located on Summer Street, ###-###-####. She is a mom herself and never makes you feel that you are rushed. She delivered both of my sons in the past three years. She was my OB when I lived in Stamford and then I moved a half an hour away, but I could not imagine switching ...she is well worth the thiry minute commute!!
Good luck

Fairfield County is big, so you might want to say where you'll be in Fairfield County b/c if you live in Stamford you won't want to deliver up here! LOL...

That being said, I second Tiffany--I go to the same practice (Physicians for Women in Danbury), and I adore my OB/Gyn, Dr. C. Bruce LaMonica. The other doctors were all wonderful when I rotated through during my pregnancy. We moved here before baby number 3, and delivered at Danbury Hospital. The entire experience was terrific.

I had my first two babies at Norwalk Hospital, and that was fine (great nurses!), but my experience at Danbury was much, much better and so are my doctors up here!

Good luck!

Deliver in Greenwich. I've heard GREAT things about Brookside OB.
I delivered in Norwalk and it was OK. Stamford has a good reputation too.

I love my OB group: Women's Health Care of New England ###-###-####). I recently delivered at Norwalk and had a good experience. Doctor Deanna DelPrete delivered and the hospital's nurses are wonderful. Plus Norwalk Hospital is the only hospital in Fairfield County with a baby ICU and all of the doctors are associated with Yale New Haven. The care I received was top notch!

Women's Health Care of New England ###-###-####. They are located in Norwalk, and all of the OB Dr.'s use Norwalk Hospital. I gave birth to my one and only son there, and it was great. I would recommend getting in touch with a Doula to assist you, though. The one that I used has moved out of state, otherwise I would give you her contact information. (A Doula is a birthing coach who can help you focus on breathing during delivery and help to keep your husband calm during the birthing process.) All of the OBGYN's at WHC are great, but I'll second the comment about Delpret.

Also, after you give birth at Norwalk Hospital, they have a group meeting for new mothers that meets once a week, for free, and is run by one of the lactation consultants on staff. The meeting is free, and Mom's ask other Mom's for advice while their babies lay on the floor, get fed, crawl around, etc... it's a great time! You can make some great friends at these meetings. :-)

K.,

Welcome! I don't know where you're moving. I used Sarah Najamy, CNM who is now at the birthing center is Danbury, all three women there are midwives and come highly recommended. I live in upper Fairfield county and Danbury is too far with my second, so now I'm going with Katy Despot and Drs. Deal and Laser, haven't heard and bad word yet, and my husband likes them, too, which says a lot.

Good luck!

I second the reco on Women's Healthcare of New England. Doctor's there delivered both my kids and Norwalk hospital was great too. There are great ob's in most of the towns and all the area hospitals have good reputations for delivery and have made somewhat recent upgrades, so it is just a matter of where you are going to be...
