Looking for Wedding Gift Idea

You don't have much time, but you could get together with her mom and put together a little favorites cookbook with treasured recipes and or photos of past holidays, etc. I did that with my own recipes for my neice. She loved it!

If you are friends with other wedding guests, you can team up to get them a gift certificate for a weekend at a bed & breakfast.

My cousin just got married and a coworker of hers got her fun things to do in their own home town - movie tickets, football & basketball tickets, etc - something for every month. She has a date night planned for the first six months of their marriage! It sounded creative and fun!

One of my friends packed a lovely basket with items for a picnic: Wine, wine glasses, etc... It was a fun gift.

We also had someone frame our invitation and really liked that as well.

My husband and I like to do dinner packages. For instance we pick 3 or 4 restaurants, usually at least one upscale one, and get between $25 and $50 at each place. We have had great response from our friends who have gotten married later in life also.

I always, always give money for a wedding gift. Even if I attended a wedding when I was budget conscious, I would still give money-probably $50.00 vs. $100.00. Although the gifts mentioned below are nice, I think they are more like bridal shower gifts. Or since you want to do something creative, how about something small mentioned below and money?

I second Michelle's idea. I did the same thing for my fiancee's daughter this summer. I asked for an engagement picture of them, and then had that framed with their invitation and response card (and an additional invite I got for the rehearsal dinner, since it was also personalized.) Do they live in a house, or apartment? If house- how about a small flowering tree to plant. It will commemorate their wedding day- and will grow, as their life together does :)

There are gigantic fluffy, furry blankets that we find at the flea market (brand new of course)and we buy them for people all the time. The only one who ever said she didn't want one was my stuck up older sister. So she gets stationery for everything! teehee

What about a special picture frame or personlized item for their special day? They will want to display pictures of their wedding so a personlized frame would be nice, or a really nice wedding photo album. I had a friend take my wedding invitation and make it look old and put it in a display frame with flowers and things. It is really beautiful and something I still display 7 years later.

One of my favorite wedding gifts was to buy a cooler and fill it with a bunch of fun bacyard items. Plastic plates and cups, napkins, etc. For one couple that loved beer, we stocked it with $100 worth of good microbrews from around the world. Just put a big bow on the cooler and there you go.

For another couple, we asked them what they had planned for their honeymoon and arranged for a special treat. We paid for them to do a zip line adventire on their Mexican honeymoon, which is something they've always wanted to do.

A guest at our wedding had our wedding invitation framed in a very lovely and tasteful manner. I love it. It is one of the most memorable wedding gifts we received.

a friend mentioned they got a basket of board games stacked on top of eachother with a big bow holding them together. I really like this idea & will be using it for a wedding in a few months. Another idea is a subscription to netflix with popcorn, wine, chocolates. or just good old fashion money

If you are handy with a camera and have at least 90 minutes lapse between the ceremony and reception you can make them a really fun wedding album to hand them at the reception. Take as many pictures as you can before, during, and just after the ceremony. Then go to Target, Walmart, Walgreens (anywhere with a photo kiask). Put your memory stick in, select the pictures you want printed and you'll get them back in an hour (make sure you ask if they are behind before you complete your order!). When I did this, I let the photo tech know what I was doing and he rushed my order ahead of everyone else and got it done in about 30 minutes. Then you put the pictures in a wedding album (the kind where you just slide the pictures right in makes it really easy), tie it up with a bow and hand it to the bride and groom at the reception. I'd seen this done at a wedding I went to once and so I did this for some friends. They LOVED being able to look at pictures of the ceremony right away, and it got passed around from table to table for everyone to enjoy!

One of the things we appreciated the most when we set up our own places was artwork. We had a few people give us a few pieces we really loved -- these were folks who knew us very well and knew what we liked! Maybe you could give them a gift certificate for something they would like to pick out together.

Another good idea might be quilts or bedspreads they pick out together, since their tastes may be different as a couple.

There is a great site called sterlingcutglass.com...great glass gifts that can be engraved. One of my favorite gifts was a really nice crystal bowl with our initials. They look very expensive but are about $60....

I'm actually a Surprise Lady, and one of the things that we have is called the "Love Bucket". It's a small package that has a metal bucket that can hold a bottle of wine (or a couple bottles of beer...whatever their taste...lol). It also has a CD w/ about 13 instrumental romantic songs, a couple of pheromone enhanced tea lights and some rose petals.

My mom used to always get a picnic basket. She would pack little plastic wine glasses in it. It usually already included plates and plastic utinsels. Inside it she would also pack cheese, summer sausage, crackers, and sparkling grape juice (could also do wine, but we didn't drink).
