Looking for the Best Hospital to Deliver a Baby

I noticed you are in Osseo. I delivered at Mercy in Coon Rapids and had a great experience. Their rooms are very nice and large, the staff was fantastic. I had only one bad experience and that was with the lactation consultant. Avoid her. But otherwise, everyone there was great.

I had both of my kids at Mercy the nurses were all great we were really happy.

I do have a VERY strong opinion, as does anyone here who knows about the safety ratings and maternity wards of the local hopitals.
Without a question, the most respected is Abbott Northwestern Hospital, they are connected to Children's Hospital. If god forbid, any issue with the infant, the Neonatologist at Children's are the most qualified in the nation! The Vermont Oxford Study-which logs outcomes for the nation's hospitals proves their superiority! It's published, and there's no reason to mess with the best when they are right here. Methodist Hospital has a great maternity center too, but Abbott is by far the leader. Stay away from Fairview - worst safety record in the city. North Memorial is a private hospital and I had my gallbladder taken out there, it's beautiful, check out their birth center if you want, but honestly, if you can- deliver at Abbott!

I have delivered to babies at Stillwater's Lakeview hospital. I pregnant with my third baby and I will have this on ethere two. I have also used the same midwife everytime. Her name is Fern Aspen. The hospital staff was absolutely excellent. My midwife was always reachable. She gave me peppermint for nausea and foot massages to help bring the baby down. There were nurses always available to me.
I have heard too many horror stories of bad hospitals and unsupportive staff. I live in Andover and I am willing to travel the 45 min for my appointments. I love Lakeview and I belive it is extremely important to have a wonderful birthing experience.

I delivered both my children at St. Johns Hospital in Maplewood. I loved it there.

I was set up to deliver at United in St Paul, my ob was quite unthrilled with the choice, he highly recommended st joseph's, but it was the only one covered by my ins. the night i had my girl, united was completely full and they sent me up north (appearantly st joseph's was full too? i don't know) to St John's in Maplewood. It was really nice, all "suites" are private and you labor, deliver, recover, and stay in the same room your whole visit. the staff was really nice there too, and it is a pretty small place, which i kinda liked a lot. I'm not necessarily recommending this place, but that was my experience =)

I have had three children, all at different hospitals. The one I had the best experience at was the most recent too. Unity Hospital in Fridley. Everyone was so nice and helpful, they have a desk by the elevator where everyone has to check in and out and they had pretty good food too, lol.

I had all 3 of my children at United Hospital in St. Paul and had a VERY positive experience. I would say that for me it was important to deliver at a hospital that had a NICU in it - just because you never know. I was a low-risk mom, but my middle child spent 3 days in the NICU (reflux) and I was SO glad to have it right there in the hospital, rather than across town! Good luck!

I delivered my son at Fairview Southdale and have been very happy with them. I am set to deliver my twins at Fairview Southdale next week. The nurses are wonderful and I really like the hospital because they have specialty drs on staff not just on call.

I had a great delivering experience at Abbott Northwestern. It was amazing. However, my husband and I were both very displeased with the recovery part. The nurses have pagers now instead of the call button, and ours never returned our pages. My baby was born at 3AM, and they didn't bathe him until 11:30AM after I dragged myself down to the nursery crying because no nurse would call me back. We also had a bunch of fresh food from Byerly's labeled with our name and put in the fridge, and it was taken within hours (twice). We actually filed a complaint about that area of the hospital. But, again, the birthing area was amazing and warm and a wonderful experience.

I have had two children one at Methodist-would NEVER go there again and one at St. Joseph's in St. Paul. I LOVED the nurses at St. Joes and was able to do a water birth which was soooooo awesome! It was like taking drugs without taking drugs. If you are at all curious about water births I would go for it! I would absolutely do it again.
